Last night, the Charlie Strong rumors died down and some think he decided to stay at Louisville. (Hurray for SpitsNGiggles! lol) Of course, no one knows for sure what happened.
Bruce Feldman just confirmed TN has offered the job to Mike Gundy at Oklahoma St, per sources at CBS.

Maybe Ella gets her wish! I would be behind this hire too.
Rumors are that the AD at OSU (Holder) and Gundy are at ends with each other and it is a volatile situation.
If Gundy is indeed hired, the biggest decision of his career at UT would be who he names as his D-Coordinator. Gundy is a great offensive minded coach- but in the SEC, you have to play some sort of formidable defense. As we saw this year.
Whomever comes in, I hope they keep Jay Graham (RB coach) and Sam Pittman (O-Line coach). Those guys did awesome this year.
Re: ** EllaHella and SarahL77** (football talk)
sbnation just reported this as well.

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!
I have wanted to say that since I saw your avatar but I never had the opportunity to until now.

CBS Sports is now reporting it via Bruce Feldman. It has a lot more credibility now that it is posted on CBS Sports website and isn't just a Bruce Feldman tweet.
I love college football, but you probably don't want me in here because I'm a Bama fan. ROLL TIDE!!!
RTV, at least we can probably agree that the SEC rules!
GTFO
Just kidding.
Yes, SEC rules! I will pull for Bama for NCG and it is the only game I will pull for them on. I desperately wanted Georgia to win last week.
And I love the TN/Bama rivalry. 3rd Saturday in October is fun and exciting.
Bowl Games and March Madness are my fav times of the year.
Aside from Kentucky, SEC basketball is pretty lackluster. But I still love the sport.
UT had a lot of good years before these rocky ones. When I was at UA, times were tough for us Bama fans. UT was just coming off of the Peyton Manning golden years and y'all were still really good.
I don't mind if you can only cheer for us in the NCG though. UT would have to be playing in an NCG or playing Auburn for me to cheer for them. I will NEVER cheer for Auburn to win a game.
NEVER.
::butts in::
College football blows.
::butts out::
I am wise. You should listen.
I pity you.
Robert Allen, a sideline reporter for the Oklahoma St, said on the radio that Mike Gundy would not be leaving Oklahoma St to accept the Tennessee job.
Not sure if it is his opinion or if he has a credible source to make that claim.
You shouldn't. Pro football trumps college anyday.
It is what it is. Congrats on your new coach!
LOL the Not Fun League is horrible.
The pageantry and history of college football is what makes it great.
College guys have 3-4 years to play there and that is it. Done. And they all want to go pro to make the $$ so they play hard every year.
Once NFL guys get the contract they want- they coast. Then when contract year comes up, they have record seasons. Imagine that.
To each their own, however. If you enjoy the NFL, no one is going to convince you otherwise and vice versa.
But college is better.
Negative. There's like 5 billion college teams so it's tougher to follow. There's no playoffs and teams are ranked before the season even starts on some bs system. There's so many blowout, boring games and most players/teams suck.
College players play so they can get a contract and care more about individual merit--since most teams have zero chance to make a championship game even if they had a perfect season that's less incentive. Pro teams are trying to win the superbowl.
There are 124 FBS teams. I admit, the conference alignments can be confusing. But all you need to pay attention to are the SEC, BIG 10, BIG 12, and PAC 12. That is it.
And they are not ranked preseason. Coaches vote preseason up until Week 8. Then they are ranked by a computer that compares strength of schedule, stats, etc after 8 weeks of data have been accumulated.
And starting in 2014- they are going to a playoff system. Top 4 teams will play in a semi-final, then finals.
I don't like the NFL playoff system because it makes it so not all regular season games count. Once a team "locks" in- they rest their starters for weeks. A team can lose multiple games and still win. I don't like that. I like how every Saturday, every game counts. It is like a year long playoff. It rocks.
Holy crap- the rumor mills comes full cycle.
Brent Hubbs of VolQuest.com is reporting the UT's private plan is in Louisville and contract negotiations with Charlie Strong are being undertaken this morning. Also, Charlie Strong is also negotiating with Louisville at the same time for more $/contact extension.
An ESPN reporter came out and said Gundy will not be leaving OSU.
https://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2012/dec/05/another-day-speculation-about-gundy-and-strong-ut/
This article claims both Gundy and Strong will remain at their respective schools and UT will be left out.
If both Gundy and Strong will not leave their schools, Larry Fedora would be the 3rd option. (Personally, I don't think Larry Fedora would be a bad hire either).
If we don't get one of those 3 or a surprise homerun hire, a lot of the talking heads predict there will be a big meltdown in VolNation.
ESPN reporting Gundy will stay at OSU.
https://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8714519/mike-gundy-remain-coach-oklahoma-state-cowboys-sources-say
They just hate us because we rock. RTR!
Oh and damn right, SEC rules!
Are you high? Pro has it's place, but for a purist there is nothing better than watching kids play the game they love. I'd take a college game over NFL any day. I'm sad for the fans that only follow pro.
I know right? People get all mad spouting off NFL is better.
We just feel bad for them.
I wish I had a stronger opinion to share. I'll be glad when someone is officially named and stands up in front the media in their spiffy new orange tie to be introduced to Vol Nation.
The one thing I do know is that college football > NFL.
ESPN reporting Louisville is "working hard to keep strong" while he is "mulling over a lucrative offer from Tennessee".

Another ESPN article claiming Strong has been offered the job but is negotiating with Louisville for a new deal.
You're tracking this like it's your job. Quiet day at the office?
Lol yes, yes it is. I am on an all day long conference call. 99% listening and tracking the UT coaching search lol.
Cutest gif ever!
LOL
