If you had PUPPPs

How long after delivery did it go away? Or at least get better?

Did your doc give you anything to ease the itch or were you just stuck being uncomfortable?

I am miserable.

Re: If you had PUPPPs

  • Omg. I just wrote a blog post about this here. I'm 12 days post delivery and the puppp sores are totally gone, but my skin is still super itchy and cracked because it got very dry once the puppp went away.

My doc gave me cortisone cream and benadryl, but i don't know that either one really did much. They refused to give me cortisone shots even after I'd delivered.

I was so miserable that I would cry regularly about it. I felt like an ogre because there were literally pustules all over my hands, arms, feet, fingers, etc. Now I'm just dry and scabby.

  • Honestly, I would say it got a million times better as soon as I delivered... it was still there and I could still scratch for hours for several weeks after, but I no longer wanted to take a razorblade to my skin.

Hang in there, I know how miserable you are, I'm sooooo sorry!!!

  • Uh. You don't wanna know.

5-6 weeks. That's when I finally got an rx for prednisone, but it was starting to go away on its own at that point.

  • I am SO sorry!!! PUPPs is THE worst. I had it horribly while pregnant and ended up taking a steroid antibiotic pack. It went away within 48 hours of using the meds and didn't come back.....thank God! Can you take meds?

  • Ugh, I cringe everytime I think about that damn rash.  I was admitted to the hospital at 34 weeks for several reasons and had PUPPS at the time.  Prior to my admittance I had tried everything --- oatmeal baths, every anti itch cream, online natural remedies, blah, blah, blah.  The only things that gave me any relief were Sarna lotion (the sensitive version) and ice.  At the hospital they put me on a steroid pack and gave me a steroid shot.  I felt 95% better 36 hours later.  By the time I delivered the next week, it was gone.

After delivery (about 7 weeks) I got a new rash.  Dermatologist said it was an allergic reaction, but I swear it was just like and looked just like PUPPs.  Had another shot and applied rx cream and stopped itching a few days later.

  • oh girl, i hear you.  never mind the twin pregnancy, the morning sickness, the anxiety...the itchiness was THE WORST!  i read online somewhere that granpa's pine tar soap (which you can order online on amazon...i think) worked and i tried it and lo and behold the itchiness subsided.  didn't go away entirely until after i delivered though.  but now i have scars b/c i scratched so darn much.  :(

    good luck

  • My situation is a little different - I had the exceedingly rare post-partum development of PUPPPS.  I just wanted to say I understand how miserable you are and hope it goes away quickly!

I did get a prescription steroid cream, but I don't know if that would have been OK if I were still pregnant.

I also got this postpartum! It was terrible. The sores and rash went away by about 6 weeks or so but I am still itchy often and my girls are almost 12 weeks. I feel like I am going to itch forever.
