Cloth Diapering

Red rash every time he's in cloth these days

We've done mostly CD from the start with our son. He had two yeast rashes in a row but I think I've finally gotten rid of it. He was in disposables for about 3 weeks (2 weeks to clear up the rash and a week for a trip). Now when I put a CD on him, he gets a bright red rash.

We mostly use GMD workhorse fitted during the day and WAHM fitteds with athletic mesh as a stay-dry layer at night.

I wash in country save but when I was treating the dipes for yeast I used GSE, tea tree oil and bleach, then did a full hot/cold cycle (w 2nd rinse) with just water to rinse everything really well.

I will confess that I am not changing his as much as I'd like because he's in this lovely phase where any diaper change or outfit change is a screamfest that takes him 10 min to calm down from - because clearly having your diaper changed is akin to having acid poured all over you? Haha.

Any ideas? He's back in disposables again and I'm sooooo sick of them!

  • Are you using the stay dry layer during the day too?!?  I've been using disposable liners in addition to the stay-dry layer so that I can use another cream lately (not yeast, but persistant rash) and that seems to be clearing it up. I think in my case I went too long between washes when our washing machine was broken... 4-5 days opposed to 2-3 days between washes.

Could be that he needs a stay dry layer, could be detergent sensitivity.  My L developed a sensitivity after 9 months. Took me forever to figure out what was giving her a rash.
This is my thought as well.  I would try changing detergents and adding fleece liners.
