LO 6months...now refusing bottle

Title really says it all. Did this happen to anyone else?  I bf mostly, but have given pumped milk when I want to go out. LO has now refused the bottle the last 3 times we have left him.  Going 4-5 hours without anything. He nurses still every hour and a half when we're together.

Could you try a sippy? Or if he has started solids, maybe offer solids instead, and assume he will make up for missed milk when you get back?

I'm going to try a zippy tomorrow. (so much wasted thawed milk though!) I know he won't starve to death because he will eat some solids. Just started on Thanksgiving though, so not eating a ton yet.  DH and I are suppose to go away for the night for our anniversary (Dec. 11th) and obviously I can't go away for that long if he is refusing a bottle :/

  • My friend had the same problem...she had to BF for a year because her little one would not take a bottle of any kind. She saw two specialists and still no bottle. She ended up going to straws and sippy cups, but it was also a long process.

Hopefully it works out for you and sippy cups work :)

  • My DD never took a bottle. I tried every bottle on the market and every trick. I introduced a sippy cup at 6 months to try and get some freedom but even those took months to work. As she got older I would just her go 4 or 5 hours without then she made up for it when I came back, but that was only when necessary.

We did leave LO overnight before she was fully on a sippy. I can't remember how old she was, but it was closer to a year. MIL just did her best to get an ounce or two of bm into her every hour or so and she ate her yogurt and finger foods and was fine. But at 6 months I'm not sure you could squeak by considering how dependent they are on milk.

Have you tried a regular cup and tilting it in? Some people say their babies like that. Or they could spoon feed LO milk.

Good luck. I know I felt very tethered for a long time. I hope something works for you!
