Parenting after a Loss

Still no poo!

Hello there..  I posted a while ago about this. Olivia will be 1 month old this Tuesday.  She has no pooed since the 16th of November!  I called the doctor when she was at about 4-5 days without poo. They said to bicycle her legs or use a q-tip with vasoline to stimulate her.  I've bicycled but not tried the q-tip. She's REALLY gassy. She farts a lot. Plenty of wet diapers. Feeds fine. Sleeps fine. Acts fine.. she does squirm and fuss when she's gassy but as soon as she farts or burps she usually stops.

If I'm counting right, today would be like day 9 with no poop. Should I still not be concerned? I mean is there something I can eat that will help her? I'm BF'ing.. if I drink more water or eat a ton of fiber or something.. will it help her?

  • Try the q-tip thing. When M wasn't pooping on his own, I did a rectal temp on him. Worked like a charm. I can't imagine being backed up for 9 days. Although, I'm not sure how often BF babies poop, M was FF & I could tell when he was uncomfortable.

  • I think she's much gassier than she would be if she would actually poo.  the pedi said that sometimes they can go a week without going because they can't hold much and their little bodies use all that they eat but DS was BF too and he never went this long. he always pooed.. literally almost after every feeding. So I either feel like I'm not feeding her enough (even though the pedi thinks I am) or maybe I'm not eating enough of the right foods.

  • Zane went ten days between pooping when he was tiny, multiple times.  I would just keep waiting it out, as long as she is acting fine and doesn't seem to be straining to go.

  • DD didn't poop very frequently at the beginning. The pedi had me give her half a glycerin suppository if it got to be more than a couple of days. So if by a third day she hadn't pooped, I'd suppository her and she usually pooped within 20 min. Hopefully you guys have had some poop by now but if not, I'd call and ask about that. I got them at the pharmacy, just be sure to ask for the pediatric ones, so they are smaller. And yeah, I just broke it in half, put it up there, made sure it stayed and then put her diaper back on. One of the glamorous parts of being a mom, lol. GL!
