LO starting solids soon

DS is exactly 5 months and I will be introducing solids soon in the next coming weeks. What should I start with first? Rice cereal? Vege? Then fruit? But introduce one each week correct?
I'm kind of at a lost when it comes to this so any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: LO starting solids soon

  • Our pedi had us start with oatmeal after the 4 month appointment. Then at 5 months said we could start introducing a new veg or fruit every 3 days.

The pedi said no rice because of the whole arsenic thing.

I would talk to your pedi if you are unsure. I was nervous about giving him food and asked a ton of questions.

  • We started 1 day before 5 months w/ oatmeal. 3 days later, we gave her yams and she loved it! We wait 3-4 days between foods.

So far, she had yams, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas and pears. She hated avocados.

She eats lunch and dinner (I BF before and after).

She was really ready for it.

  • I held out as long as I could and gave LO his first taste of solids today. He will be 6 months next week..(wow, can't believe it.) I gave him Nature's best organic rice cereal and mixed it with BM. He ate well off the spoon and laughed the whole time I fed him. We got it on video. Really adorable. My plan is to give him the rice cereal for a few days and then our next food is avocado.

  • We'll be starting oatmeal here soon.  Hard to believe our babies are old enough already :(

  • We just started oatmeal last week. We're taking it slow, she's just had it 3 times. She seems to like it. I just mix some with breast milk. We'll stick with oatmeal until she's 6 months, then our pedi recommended green veggies, then orange veggies, then meat, then carbs, then fruits. Since she's breast fed, pedi wants to make sure we start with iron rich foods first. The order probably doesn't make a big difference, but the Type A mom in me loves having a set schedule : )

  • we tried oatmeal and then sweet potatoes two weeks ago and he was super fussy and woke up screaming in the middle of the night (has been STTN since 10 weeks) so we stopped the food and he was immediately fine. I'm scared to try again...
