I know this sounds kind of like a dumb question, but I'm confused on how this whole measuring of weeks pregnant works. When I first log onto TB it says I'm 7 weeks pregnant. But when I go to my calender it says that I'm in week 8, and that baby is the size of a raspberry? The first day of my last period was Oct 1st. But I'm not going to lie when I say that I'm still confused. Any advice or help?
Thank you,
First Time Mommy-To-Be
Sam
Re: How many weeks pregnant am I exactly?
Normally it's measured from the first day of your last period... but that's very general and assumes that you ovulated on day 14 of a 28-day cycle, which many women do not, so the weeks might change once you get an ultrasound to measure/figure out how far along you really are.
The first two weeks of your "pregnancy" you are not really pregnant yet. I'm not sure why it's done that way, just easier to keep track of since not everyone knows when they O, I'm guessing.
It could be that some of those places had you put in your O date? That might change things so maybe that's why they are different. The only other thing I can think of is that you entered in the date wrong by accident on one of them.

Balaustine: an anthology about wanting family
"One of the most important aspects of obstetrical care is to date, as precisely as possible, the beginning of pregnancy so that the estimated time of arrival ETA can be calculated sometimes referred to as the estimated date of confinement EDC. The standard textbook of obstetrics, Williams Obstetrics, states vigorously that precise knowledge of the age of the fetus is imperative for ideal obstetrical management! emphasis in the original. And yet, even with all of the available technology, one of the puzzles of modern obstetrics, is that the obstetrician has not yet learned how to accurately date the beginning of a pregnancy.
Pregnancy can be measured in two different ways. The most common and most often used in clinical obstetrics is the measurement of the gestational age of the pregnancy. The gestational age of the pregnancy is measured from the first day of the last menstrual period. In this way of dating the pregnancy, the pregnancy is 40 weeks in duration on average instead of the actual 38 weeks. In other words, it dates the pregnancy, on average, two weeks longer than it is.
The other way of measuring the dates of the pregnancy is to measure the fetal age. The fetal age of the pregnancy is measured from the time of conception or the estimated time of conception ETC. When measuring the pregnancy in this fashion, it will be 38 weeks long or two weeks shorter than the gestational age dates. The fetal age, of course, is the actual age of the pregnancy."

Most doctors measure off of your LMP but a more accurate way is to just add two weeks to the day you ovulated. However, lots of people don't know this day so that's why they go off your LMP.

If you are 7 weeks pregnant, you are in your 8th week.
When you are first beginning your cycle, you can't say you're in zero week, so it starts at one. So, your first week "pregnant" is 0w1d-0w6d. Then, your second week is 1w0d-1w6d and so on.
Consequently, your 8th week being pregnant is 7w0d-7w6d
