WTF re. shipping charges

So I want to buy a bubble bum seat to take travelling.  They are not avaliable in Canada yet. I have found one place online that will deliver to Canada from the US. The thing (which weighs a pound) ships for $7.99 anywhere in the USA. But to cross the border they want $50!!! The seat only cost $40 for effs sake!

I have emailed the company in the UK to see how much it would cost to oder directly from them.

    Shipping from the US to Canada sucks.

    The fees are high and all the paperwork is a pain in the butt.  That is why if companies are even willing to go thru the hassle they charge you an arm and a leg.  They are probably still gonna get screwed later because inevitably even if you do everything right you (the shipper) end up getting another bill 2 months from now for some import tax or whatever.  Total PIA.
