Fluid in kidney?

I saw my dr today after a few days of consistent back and side pain on my right side. An ultrasound revealed fluid in my right kidney and I have an appointment with a urologist next week. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and could maybe offer some insight on what I might expect? My appointment seems so far away and I'm not really looking forward to spending the weekend in pain....but I'm really thankful that everything seems perfectly fine with LO.

 Thanks!!

Re: Fluid in kidney?

  • I have fluid in both kidneys right now but more so on the right. My doctor said it is something that will fix itself after delivery.

  • Hey, I know exactly what you're going through! My symptoms first presented themselves as a UTI. I was treated unsuccessfully for a UTI for three weeks before they decided something wasn't quite right. They ran an ultrasound yesterday, and I went to see the urologist today. Basically, the baby is compressing your ureter (usually happens on the right side) causing your kidney to become backed up and inflamed which is why you're in so much pain. And holy cow does it hurt! I find that a heating pad helps really well, or a hot shower. The urologist said that it's very common during pregnancy and will clear up when the baby is born. If you're in a lot of pain they can insert a stent to drain it. Has your urine been cultured for bacteria? Because when it just sits there in your kidney it can cause an infection. It's called urine stasis or something like that.

  • I had excess fluid in one of my kidneys and they didn't seem too concerned - they said with my history of kidney stones I might have one but it has since cleared itself up!  Good luck!
