Peeking at your registry before the shower

I have been looking/checking my registry somewhat frequently to see what has been purchased for the last few weeks.  I told myself last weekend that I would stop since my family shower is this Sunday.  I'm trying so hard not to look anymore so that I can be somewhat surprised, but man is it difficult!

What are your thoughts on looking at the registry right before your shower?  Anyone else in the same boat (trying to fight the urge to look)?

Re: Peeking at your registry before the shower

  • I had gone online to update my registry at some point early last week and noticed a few things were purchased. Now I feel like I go on every day (a few times) to see what else is disappearing. Part of me feels bad, but it's also exciting because then I can think about where I'm going to put those certain items after the shower (I don't know the date - surprise - but I'm guessing December 2). Don't feel bad! It's kind of like we're kids looking for our Christmas presents before they're wrapped. ;)

  • I check mine regularly. I put some items on multiple registries, so I have to remove them from others if they are purchased so I don't get duplicates. I don't think it's that big of a deal. You don't know who got it for you, plus you already picked all this stuff out. It's not exactly a surprise.

  • I peek too!  Partly out of curiosity, I have to admit. ;-)

But mostly I check in because if all/most of the items in a particular price range get purchased, I want to be able to add more items in that price range that were on the "nice to have, but not top priority" list to the registry so any guests who haven't bought something yet will have options.  I don't want someone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend to get stuck with only expensive items to choose from.

  • I check all the time! I don't feel bad, part of it is managing the registry, the other part is curiosity!

our shower is out of town so most people are shipping the gifts too us. We get them in a few days anyway!

  • Im totally guilty, I try to justify it saying  I need to make sure I am covering all the price points and there is enough for my guest to choose from.  But reall, I just wanna peek.

I want to avoid duplicates also - I check compulsively, it's pretty bad...

  • I kept peeking before my shower too, but honestly, most of the gifts I received were not on my registry and were a surprise, so it didn't spoil much of anything. Finding out I would be getting some of the big ticket items was exciting, but didn't take anything away the day of! And like others have said, you don't know who got it for you, so that's a bit of a surprise :)

  • I am fighting the urge VERY hard.  I don't know when my shower is, so it would likely be a dead giveaway to see things disappear.  But my aunt sent me a gift and my grandmother called to tell me that she wanted to order the stroller, but couldn't do so through Babies R Us, so wanted to do it through Amazon.  I was being so good up until now!!  haha.

  • I was fine with not checking mine until the other day I was adding something to it and then noticed something had been purchased. After that, now I can't stop checking. Its addiciting.
  • I've been checking about once a day. I know I have showers coming up, and I want to make sure there are items at a variety of price points. If it seems like a lot of the smaller items have been purchased, I can always add a few things so people feel like they have options.

  • Oh geeze - when I was pregnant with DS1, I would look at my registries like every few hours.  I was obsessed!

  • I'm so bad. I check every day and sometimes more than once. I get phone calls from my family to remove stuff off of the list because they don't want to buy it right away but they want it reserved. In some ways it's good but then I'm forgetting what each had asked me to remove and it's forcing me to look at it when I don't want to.

I also just read someone's response saying they added the same item to two different registries. I literally just updated my registry and did this because it seems that one is more popular than the others. I'm surprised. I thought the BRUS would be popular but the BuyBuyBaby seems to be the registry of choice so far.
