If you need state aid because you cannot afford groceries for your family, you should not have an Iphone. Futhermore, if you get state aid, you should not be complaining on Facebook and Instagram that you are getting screwed over and not getting enough aid...especially when you post from your Iphone.

I'm still obsessed with everything that Munchkin eats. I want it all to be as healthy as possible, with the majority of it being organic. Yesterday he found a Pez candy on the floor at my mom's and popped it in his mouth. He didn't swallow it but I still feel horrible that he even tasted it.

You'll probably get flamed, but think of it this way...a phone can give you internet access so you can stay connected to the world, apply for jobs, etc. An internet connection and computer plus a cell phone would be more expensive than a smart phone.
I'm sure I will. I think most libraries have free internet access, and I'm sure any workforce development center also does. My Iphone costs almost $100 a month and they are $400-$700 (?) to buy outright. That's a lot of groceries that could be purchased. I feel like as a society, we really have our priorities f'ed up.
I cant stand buying babies expensive shoes/clothing...I judge those who do. Frist of all it is only going to fit for a few months, second it WILL get dirty.
I will not buy expensive clothing for myself...so I guess that is where that comes from. I have never bought any jeans that cost more than $40.
diet pills are insane....some ladies I work with are taking them to lose weight not sure what kind but they are seriously running to the restroom and blowing it up several times a day. Going to the gym would be alot less embarrassing IMO.

I sort of agree, but maybe they already had the phone and contract before things got rough. You never really know someone's story by just looking at them. However, I do judge women who have it, but can "afford" professional haircare, manicures and things like that. There will always be people who abuse it.

I agree. I cringe if I spend more than $10 on an article of clothing for him. My main thing is spending lots of money on shoes when the kid isn't even walking much. I don't see the point. I'll have years and years and years to spend trying to come up with enough money for his brand name back to school shoes, so for now I'm trilled he doesn't care his shoes are $7 at Old Navy.
I confess I have a weakness. He sleeps (and pees) in a $74 pair of pants (diaper cover) ever night. Judge away. I justify it by reminding myself CD wool maintains a great resale value.
I'm usually really cheap when it comes to L's clothes. But. She does have gap jeans and a gap hoodie. She wears them all.the.time, we'll be able to use them for future kiddos and pass them along to L's cousins, and they were on sale.
Also, L has nice shoes. But I bought them at St. Vinny's. $2 for baby shoes? Yes please.
I don't understand taking your 9 month old to a theme park (any of them). They won't remember it or be able to do much there. Why waste all that money?
I silently (or not so silently) judge anyone who buys brand name shoes for their kid or only shops at Baby Gap. Like pp said, they grow out of it so quickly.
And to this day I can't understand why we are so hard core "republican" or "democrat" because, although I am a registered democrat I don't 100% agree with everything the party line says and I can't imagine there is anyone out there who does. So why are we so damn black and white in political party affiliation but grey in our actual politics. And don't give me the BS about a third party, I bet you don't agree 100% with them either.
Finally, I hate the movie Bridesmaids and you can?t make me like it!
I live in the land of jacked up trucks. I like most jacked up trucks. However, I do not like when the body of said jacked up truck ends before the tires begin. That just looks stupid.

I kinda agree with this but its cause I know alot of people who are on medicaid and good stamps but yet get their nails done every week, their hair done, are always going out to the bars andi also know of some that use the credit card that their child support money go to they take money out of it to go out. I'm all for helping people when they need it but I feel there should be some sort of limit as to how long they get to use it and also show that they are looking for a job and not just sitting at home. This is why I stay away from grocery shopping during the day or beginning of the month, it amazes me how full of groceries a cart can be and sometimes a food stamp card is being used. Also I know of people who sell their card, they ask for 20 in cash and then let the person spend double or triple that on their card. I hate that cause there are people who can really use that help but get denied yet these people can sell there card out.
ETA I also know of one couple, they were married, but her dh took their daughter and went to apply. He lied saying they were separated and that the Mom left him with the baby. To this day he still receives food stamps. I also know another who quit her job because she was too tired from being pregnant to work anymore, she was only 11 weeks pregnant, and her dh told her to supply cause if not she was going to have to go work again, which is crazy cause of she quit she shouldve thought about everything before hand, not quit and rely on assistance so she wouldn't have to work. Sorry but I know moms who are single parents and work hard and just need a lil help but can't get it cause they make too much. Its really sad to me.

I just can't get in board with giving Logan a blanket to sleep with at night. I truly don't judge anyone, I just don't get it. He moves all over his crib in his sleep. His head usually ends up at the opposite end so I can't figure out how it would work anyway. Would he even stay covered? That and because he moves all over I'd be way too worried and never sleep myself.

If I knew they went out and bought the most current iPhone then I would judge, but my mom (not that she's on any aid) always gets my dad's old iPhone so he can get the new one and they're on a family plan so it's not much for her to have the iPhone. And it's not easy to just head out to a library to get on the internet. What if it's not close to your house? Then you have to drive over and pay for public transportation to get there and then what if there's a line for open computers? What if you work when the library is open or have little kids to take care of after work that would make it hard for you to get to the library? What if that phone is the only way to connect to the internet to search for a better job once their kid is in bed? Smartphones today can replace home phones and computers, so they can also save money in other areas. Again, I would judge someone who was going out and spending a ton of money on the latest and greatest smart phone (or spending a ton of money on any luxury item for themselves) but I wouldn't judge someone for having an older one or a smartphone in general, especially since cell phones are more of a necessity then a luxury these days.

I wish my parents, sister, and ILs would get this. Everyone wants us to take the girls to all kinds of places that we have to pay for them to get into - or pay a high amount for us to get into - where they can't participate in anything yet and won't enjoy or remember it. Sorry, not spending money and screwing up their naps for no real reason. You want to pay? Have at it! But no one offers to pay, they just give me crap about how we're no fun. We can't WAIT for the day when we can do all kinds of fun stuff with them but we're still paying off their NICU bills and don't want to waste the money. My ILs are giving us crap because they want us to go on a cruise with them next summer and we don't want to spend the money. The girls will be 1.5 years old and we would have to pay half price for each of them to go. Kids who aren't potty trained aren't allowed in the pools. H and I wouldn't be able to go to the late night shows because they'll have to go to bed and we won't be able to do the cool shore excursions. You want us to pay ~$1500 for a trip we can't enjoy? No way!

I get this. I don't know everyone's circumstances. I can only base my judgement on what people post on Facebook. A girl I went to high school with lives completely off state aid and she is proud of it. She was complaining the other day that she had to wait a day for her money for groceries but she was going to get a new tattoo and get her nails done..and she posts from her Iphone. People that take advantage of the aid infuriate me because someone that really needs help might not be getting it.

I agree. I would not care if I paid more taxes to go towards government aid programs for thsoe who are really struggling. My sister is currently on state aid. She was a SAHM, my BIL had an affair and left her and she had nothing. She got a job immediately but still needs some help until she gets fully on her feet. Thank goodness that she receives some aid because she would be in a horrible position if she didn't.

My BFF is going through this exact thing right now with her IL's. Her DS is about 2 1/2, and they want to do a 1 stop cruise...3-4 days on the boat, one day off. She can't figure out why they think it is such a great idea.

I think it would base my "judgement" more on their lifestyle as a whole than on just their phone because there might be a situation you don't know about as PPs have said regarding the phone thing. If they are also getting nails done, buying expensive clothing, eating out all the time, etc then it would definitely irk me because they would be living a lifestyle inconsistent with the fact that they are telling the government that they are "in need" of this aid.
I don't understand taking your 9 month old to a theme park (any of them). They won't remember it or be able to do much there. Why waste all that money?
The 9 month old would be free, so it's actually not spending any money to take them. I think if you used to go to Disney, or amusement parks, and you love them, why stop going now? The babies are free, it's not like they'll be begging for food or presents or whatever, you might as well continue to do things that you enjoyed in your pre-baby life. Your life doesn't have to stop just because a baby is involved.
If you aren't going because you like to go, but only to show your 9 month old, that seems a little silly. They aren't going to remember it at all. But I'm pretty sure the people taking trips to go places like this genuinely enjoy going, so it would seem strange to me to put it off for a couple of years, when it's something the babies will enjoy anyway.
We aren't people who take trips to Disney, but my MIL really wants us to go and is paying, so we figured why not. A free trip and Lucia gets to see her Nona.

I don't understand why people spend so much energy on worrying what their neighbors are doing with their 200 dollars a month in food stamps when companies like GE are claiming incomes of 16 billion dollars and then receiving income tax CREDITS for over ONE BILLION DOLLARS. With the money the government gave GE in 2010 we could give 170,000 people five hundred bucks a month for a year to buy food for their kids. But instead people are told that if they take that minimum wage paying job they will no longer be able to receive aid. now they make a thousand bucks a month, but have to pay for child care, gas or bus to and from work, work clothes, etc. the difference is much more than the 300 dollars they were using to feed the family before, and now they can't even do that.
I know that aid programs get abused. I do. But really, is it worth your time to get that upset at the 4 cents that comes out of your paycheck to go towards those people vs getting upset at the fact that in 2010 EXXON didn't pay a single cent in income tax in the united states? You shouldn't be worrying about who your [very small amount of] money goes to. Instead try and worry about who should be helping support the impoverished and disadvantaged in our country but are instead claiming their own unneeded aid: GE, EXXON, the Koch Brothers, etc.etc.

I think baby gap is cute, but I will not buy anything from there full price...it better be on sale, I am talking 70% off or more, not because I cant afford it but because I dont feel like we are getting enough use out of it for the price. Also my duaghter has Uggs knock offs...I got them for $4 at Target.
I see people selling baby shoes on a used baby items page on FB saying "paid $120 wanting $60" or something similiar...and my jaw drops.

I agree with this, but I have someone very close to me who got state aid for her whole pregnancy and the first year of her LO's life, lives with her parents and pays not a dime towards food or household expenses, and leaves her LO with her parents while she and her H go away for at least one night every weekend and she still complains about money and how hard being a parent is. When we're still paying off NICU bills while the state paid all of her bills I am definitely a little bitter. I don't think we should so away with aid by any means and I try not to judge people who I don't know but when I know someone who abuses the system it definitely pisses me off.

I should clarify. I totally understand judging someone who you know abuses the system. I know people that do it and I judge them myself. I'm just very bothered by blanket statements like 'if you have enough money to drive a car you shouldn't be getting medicaid' or complaining because the person in front of you used a food stamp card to buy steak at the grocery store. 'You' don't know if that person is only borrowing the car you see them driving, or if they have carefully spent their food stamp money for three months to be able to afford steak for their family for one night. I'm talking more about judging people whose circumstances you don't know, rather than be irritated at someone who collects food stamps but can still afford to get tattoos and their hair styled on the regular.

Totally this. We go every year. Just because we have a baby, we aren't going to change. We are excited to start this tradition with DS. No, he will not remember but he will have fun in the moment and so will we. FWIW, we are going with both the in-laws and my parents so it is more of a family vacation/reunion type thing. We can still ride rides because someone is always willing to stay off and sit with DS. Plus, there is plenty that he can do as well.
I don't like red velvet (foods, that is). I don't understand the obsession with red velvet cupcakes and cookies and cakes, etc. I don't know why, except maybe because I don't want to eat something and then look like my mouth is bleeding.
Me either...and I saw a special on Food Network that said that the red dye used in Red Velvet comes from a certain beetle that is crushed up. Now I really don't care for it. Gross, gross, gross.
But I do love the Armadillo cake in Steel Magnolias, which was red velvet!

Re: UO
Mine might piss some people off, but it's been bugging me big time lately.
If you need state aid because you cannot afford groceries for your family, you should not have an Iphone. Futhermore, if you get state aid, you should not be complaining on Facebook and Instagram that you are getting screwed over and not getting enough aid...especially when you post from your Iphone.
Maybe I'm an a--hole, but this really chaps my a--.
I agree! I still bought a pair though because they're the only shoe that will fit his fat feet. Plus they seem really comfy and easy to move in.
I guess my UO is I don't care to have a small portion of my taxes go to welfare. A lot of people *** about it, but I'd hate to see what our country would be like without it.
Yes please.
I have several today...

I had more UOs for this week, but I have slept since I thought of them.

I had a few others earlier this week. I knew I should have started a UO on Tuesday!
Then I'm blaming my lack of fun UO's on you!

Hey! I brought up the fact that my daughter wears GAP clothes, which seems to be a VERY UO. I'm still waiting for flames. C'mon, people. You're losing your edge.
First off, I do not see the point of those shoes because they are not going to stop your child from sliding on the ground.
Second, I think all baby shoes for the most part are ugly for this size, especially sneakers. The only sneakers I like for O are Pumas or Nikes like momma and I am not spending 40 for baby sneakers!
We are taking Asher to Sea World when we're in FL in Jan. Does that count as a theme park? I don't know. He'll almost be a year old and he's free. I think he'll like it a lot. He loves the aquarium and animals. I think he'll love looking at everything.
Dude, my kid is wearing Uggs in my siggy. And she may or may not have a few GAP outfits in her wardrobe. Do you think I'm going to flame you?!
edited because I didn't like the phrasing the first time.

Whoa. Eye opener. I will be the first to admit that I don't pay much attention to the news, and this is the exact sort of thing I tune out. I need to start paying more attention.

I never said I was worried. I was just stating my UO.
They are! But they are the best shoes for this age. SO comfy and they stay on. Good for walking too.
Black Friday is ridiculous. It's like The Hunger Games: The Retail Version. Just call me Katniss. I refuse to fight to the death over low priced material items. I'd rather pay full price than ever go shopping on BF.

It's all so screwed up. And don't even get me started on health insurance companies. UGHHH. I can feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about it.
I'm scouting at Nike Outlet this weekend
