Daylight Savings can suck it!

Last night was terrible, DD was ready for bed at 5:15, but bedtime is around 7 and I really wanted to try to get her used to the time change by keeping her up until 7.  That turned into almost 2 hours of constant distraction mode.  We had dinner, then into the playroom to read her favorite book over and over for 10 min, then onto her riding dinosaur and pusing her around the house for 20 min, then getting the dogs to play so she could laugh at them, etc.  I'm still exhausted!!  But atleast she stayed up until almost 7, and slept the same as she has the last few weeks.  Hopefully, she will catch onto the time change quickly!

  • I couldn't agree more. DS woke up the past 2 days at 5:30 and he didn't go to bed last night until 8:30, WTH is going on! UGH!

  • Yeah I feel like it's thrown napping, etc off...

Then again for whatever reason my usually 12 hour overnight sleeper has been fussing at 3 AM and the only way to make him stop is to have him sleep on me. Fun times since I'm too scared to fall asleep with him like that. I hope he adjusts to the time change soon!

  • Ugh ds was up ever two to three hours, took 45 mins for him to get down to sleep in the first place; and decided he needed to be nursed in order to go back to sleep. He wasn't falling asleep at the boob, but arg... I'm tired, especially since someone woke us yesterday, by knocking on our door at 8am. Whoever that was can suck it also. I'm hoping we [ALL OF US]start sleep better!

  • Seriously.

I thought *maybe* we were going to get lucky b/c for some reason, on Saturday, DD took a really long pm nap so we shifted her bedtime a bit later and hoped that would help her adjust to the change on Sunday.

Nooooooooo....  She woke up earlier than normal even if you didn't account for the change!  Ugh.

And then she took a really long am nap on Sunday and I thought "Oh great, maybe she's adjusting!"  Nope.  Her afternoon nap was a total failure, we put her to bed early last night and she was up early again this morning.  Ugh.

I'm going to run for President and my only platform will be getting rid of daylight savings time and I think every parent with young children will vote for me and I will win.  :)

Yes, daylight savings can suck it.  Well said.  :)

  • Yep, same thing here.  She was actually starting to get cranky around 3:30, so I let her take a quick 15-minute nap thinking it would help her stay up later.  It didn't really, so there was fussing through dinner, at bathtime (which she normally loves) and by 5:30, I wasn't sure what else to do with her.  I took her to her room at 6 and rocked her to sleep.  Her bedtime is normally 6:30'ish so this wasn't too much earlier than usual.  She was up at 3:30 to eat and then up for the day at 6:45.

I do think she'll adjust pretty quickly.  We went to California on vacation a few months ago (2-hour time change) and by the 3rd day she was totally adjusted.  It just sucks the first night.

I keep trying to remind myself of this.  We've traveled across time zones with DD, too, and agree that usually by the 3rd day she's fine. But I don't know....daylight savings time changes always feel different than time zone changes.  And, of course, there's the light difference.  Also, I think the difference in routine (when traveling) also helps DD adjust.  Now she's like what's with this wacky time difference but all my other stuff is the same???!!

I'm hoping tomorrow she is back on track.  Today sleep is still screwed up.  Ugh.  And talking to mom friends with older kids (like 6 years old), this is a problem for a while.  Yay!

  • My only issue is that all my favorite shows come on an hour later. I'm kinda glad I don't have to deal with the time change!
