Prenatal Vitamins...

Which Brands are you ladies taking? My doctor had given me a prescription for Vitafol-One, but they are $60 a month, then I found out they had a generic brand called TL-Assure ONE and it was great cause they were only $10, BUT now they are telling me that its discontinued. So frustrated! Anyways, I've been doing my research and I see there are many Prenatal Brands out there so I was just wondering what you ladies are taking, now that I need to look for another one. I meet with my doctor tomorrow, so I plan on asking if he has any other suggestions as well.

Thanks. =)

Re: Prenatal Vitamins...

  • I just take the generic kind from Target.  DH is a pharmacist and says it's fine.

  • I'm taking gummy prenatals (the regular kind make me sick to my stomach) and a DHA supplement
  • I take the generic from Target as well. I'll be getting my perscription from my Dr. because their free, but I don't think there's a huge difference in them.

    This.

I've been taking them before, during and after my first pregnancy and my dr was ok with that.

  • I used to take the generic Meijer brand but just started a prescription (Triadvance I think?) and it is free.
  • I've been taking Vitafusion gummies with DHA. They don't have iron so I'll be taking a different one when I get the script from the doc. They are free from the pharmacy here.

  • Check local gorcery chains for their policies. I live in an area with Meijer stores, and if you have a script, Pre-natals are free!

  • I take Spring Valley prenatals from WalMart (they're about $10 for 240).  They were approved by my PCP when we started TTC and by my OB.
  • Generic from target.. I compared to others and same thing. Way cheaper! The pills are also not as big.
  • I'm glad to see so many are getting freebies! Our local grocery chain does free PNVs with a prescription (so I'm taking those, OP, it's some kind of generic), but I hadn't heard anybody else mention that happening elsewhere. Such a cool thing for these pharmacies to do!

I'm also taking Nature Made Fish Oil supplements on days when I don't eat fish or omega-3 eggs, because my PNV only contains about half the recommended DHA, and I also make sure to include a lot of calcium-rich foods in my diet.

I've been taking those too. Do you have to take an iron pill as well? I read that you only need it if you are low in iron, is that wrong?

  • I'm taking the Target generic as well. I also take fish oil everyday too.

I have been low before and the PNVs are free so I figure I might as well take advantage. Why buy when I don't have to? Pregnancy costs enough money.

  • I am taking natures made with DHA.  May switch to am RX brand once I see my OB next week so we will see.
  • I'm taking a regular multi-vitamin and then folic acid as well.  Prenatal vitamins made me sick last time due to the iron.  My doctor and OB both okayed this, and said it was fine as long as I also made sure to take folic acid

  • I take the Bellybar chewable ones since I even have a hard time w/reg. Tylenol.  They stopped carrying them at the CVSs near me, but luckily Walgreens has them (hopefully including the non-24hr. one closer to me).
  • I'm taking the Target gummies. I love those!

I avoid prescription prenatals, too many chemicals for my taste. I like the one's from whole foods.

I've been taking a PNV since January.nbsp; I'm a huge couponer, so picked up what I got on sale: Nature's Bounty with DHA and also a bottle of Nature Made no DHA.nbsp; I'm almost out of the Nature Made and am going to try to stick with the Nature's Bounty with DHA.nbsp; I had some constipation back in January when I started taking them, but haven't had any side effects since then.

Haha We must have the same coupons. I don't think it really matters for the most part. The prescription ones were still 15 with my copay, so I got what I could with coupons. Some of them make them more sicker than others, it just depends.
    Waiting for #3!

  • I'm taking Nature Made Prenatals with 200 mg of DHA. Also taking 500 mg Vitafusion Calcium gummies. They don't make me sick as long as I take them with food but all the iron has been giving me constipation problems. I've had to up my water and fiber intake a ton.
