Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Overwhelmed?

Does anyone else feel so overwhelmed right now? Like, your head is spinning and you can't focus on anything? I have a week old baby and I feel like I'm underwater, just trying to keep up with the basics tasks of living lol. I went out to the store for an hour yesterday and felt so disorriented- is this normal?

Re: Overwhelmed?

  • I know what you mean!  I went to Target when my little guy was a week old and felt like I was just in a fog.....the exhaustion just made me feel like a zombie.  It's gotten better.......but some days are worse than others.  Those first 2 or 3 weeks were my toughest.  Hang in there!

  • I felt the same way until very recently and my LO was a month old yesterday. I still have foggy moments and definitely times where I am still overwhelmed, but it is so much better than it was the first couple weeks.

  • Sounds exactly like how I felt. We're just over the 3 week mark now and it's a world of difference from the first week. Each day, it gets a little easier. Hang in there!

  • Um, yes.  When LO was a week old I couldn't even dream of going anywhere, except for the pediatrician appointment because I had to!  So kudos for even making it out for an hour!  I was a hot mess... we were just surviving.  Oh, and I cried every day.  Part hormones, part being overwhelmed, just everything seemed so much harder than normal.  Because it is!!! You have a teeny baby to take care of on top of everything else!  LO is 8 weeks now and now I am actually having fun... although it is still hard.  I think it will always be hard for me but I know that the hardest things are the most worthwhile.

    Exactly!

The first month was really hard for me!  In hind sight I wish I had just 100% devoted myself to LO and not worried at all about chores, or stressing myself out trying to take LO out of the house.  Just know that it is tough right now, but it will get better/easier little by little! (even in just a few weeks).

I was completely emotional and overwhelmed the first 2 or 3 weeks.  It's totally normal, you've just had the most life changing experience you will probably ever have!  Give yourself a break, take naps when the baby naps, accept help when people offer, and don't worry about groceries or chores right now.  Just relax and focus on the baby and yourself.

  • i still do at times and my baby is 9 weeks old! i think it's kind of part of being a parent. it gets easier and better! there are still moments that overwhelm me, but we're both learning still. pretty soon it will all be second nature and you'll find it all much easier! just a few tough weeks then it'll all be behind you! :)
  • Totally normal! I remember the first time i went to target after baby 1 and i felt disorented and dizzy. Now i just had my 3rd baby and its really not that challenging. As soon as you get out survival mode at home you will really start getting great at multitasking and time management. Remember you dont need to hold baby 24/7. Its ok to let baby cry for a min or two while you use bathroom or step into another room to take a few deep breathes.

    GL!
