Redecorating

I am thinking of redecorating the hall bath using the shower curtain pictured below.  Right now it's very boring, but it's adult appropriate.

Here's the thing--it is the main bathroom that guests use when they visit. Should I try to find something more adult-friendly, or should I go with this one, that I know E will love, considering really, it is her bathroom right now?

Re: Redecorating

  • You could use this curtain, but keep everything else neutral (not theme out with the soap dispensers, garbage cans, etc)  After all, it is her bathroom now, like you said.  Maybe put up a couple frames of a similar print of animals on the wall, and paint the wall a neutral color from that curtain.

  • I would go with that one.  Cute!

  • I think I would try to find a middle ground.  Instead of that shower curtain I would pick a polk-a-dot or a fun bold stripe in a bright  color.  It can be fun for your DD and not scream kid to guests.

  • Honestly, decorate it how you want. Your guests know they're staying at your house and it's your kids bathroom not a hotel. I doubt someone would care or judge a kids bathroom for being decorated for kids. As long as you have adult size towels and the bathroom is clean.

  • Our "guest" bathroom is kid-central. It is completely decorated for the kids, and not one thing in that bathroom is "adult." None of our guests have complained.

I see no problem with gearing it towards E, how often do you have guests anyway?

  • I say "to hell with the guests!". It is E's bathroom so decorate it in a way that is fun for her. She is the one that uses it everyday and the guests only use it maybe 1-2 times per visit.

This is what we did, but I wouldn't think twice about going in to a bathroom that was quite obviously "child" themed.

  • I would do what the PP said and not go crazy with the accessories.

We only have one bathroom and it had shower doors which made it extremely difficult to bathe Gator. Last weekend I bought a shower curtain that was kid friendly. The towels and floor mat were already turquoise so I made sure it had that color in it, wasn't too babyish, and was gender neutral.

This is the one we went with:

    ALL of this!!

I agree with this. We have cousins that we stay with about once a year, and we use their kids bathroom which is decorated with a kiddie jungle theme. I don't mind at all, it's the kids' bathroom! If we had a second bathroom I would do kids stuff to some degree.

And BTW that shower curtain you posted is totally adorable! Love it!

  • I like it! We had an elephant curtain that Jack picked out at our old house, and yes - it made our bathroom very juvenile, but he loved it so much that it didnt matter!

This one was on my short list along with the gender neutral owl one.
