I never had to use one with my older ds, but I am not opposed to them. I work in a store and on a daily basis we find lost children. Three weeks ago I was covering for the front end manager and when I was walking to the second bank of doors and I saw an about 2 years old girl walkout the front doors with by herself, I ran out the doors and grabbed her as she walked onto the sidewalk. She was about 3 feet away from a busy parking lot. I called my manager and it took us ten minutes to find her parents, they were in the shoe section with their other kids and hadn't noticed she was missing. I would rather irresponsible parents have their child on a leash, they would be safer than being allowed to wander in pubic places. I had to sit down in the break room and cry because it shook me up so much.

OMG, that's horrible and scary! Parents of several children really need to have some sort of plan in place to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen, and I feel like all too often it's making an older child responsible for watching a younger one - um, no! Heck, one child can manage to escape from parents if they're distracted, but if you've got several kids the distractions mount.
