Freezing bagels?

Thomas brand has pumpkin spice bagels out right now, I'm totally addicted to them! The package says they are a limited edition so I'd like to buy a few packs the next time they are on sale and freeze them. I've never frozen bread products before. Do I just toss them in the freezer? Or do I need to wrap the package in foil maybe? Or take the bagels out of the package and put them in freezer bags? Would they be better in the regular freezer or in the deep freezer? For how long? TIA!

Re: Freezing bagels?

  • I freeze bread all the time and it freezes just fine, especially if you're going to be toasting it.  I've frozen homemade bagels, never store bought ones, but I can't imagine it would be any different.  I honestly don't know about longevity though.  Usually we go through the stuff pretty quickly.  I make our bread so I have to freeze it because homemade bread will get stale pretty quickly if it sits out.  I just freeze in a plastic bag.  If you're really wanting them to stay fresh long term you might consider individually wrapping them in plastic wrap and then putting them in a freezer bag.

  • I just throw the whole bag in a ziploc and freeze that way!

It's good for sixish months for me. After that they get kind of stale/dry.

This! YUM! Make sure they are sliced prior to freezing.... or it will be tough to toast when you are craving it :P
