OB prediction!!!

So we had our 16 weeks check up today, little beans heartbeat is staying strong and 160/161 bpm. With that said my OB is predicting a girl :), but we will find out for sure next month at the anatomy scan!!!

Re: OB prediction!!!

  • Your OB actually guessed based on the heartbeat?? I just thought it was an OWT? That's neat if they did! Our LO has been in the 150's so kind of middle ground

  • LO's HB has been in the mid-high 160s.  I've been wondering in this might be the girl that my grandma has been praying for me to have. Smile  DS was consistently in the 140s.  There has to be some truth to the OWT or it wouldn't be one, right?

Um, no.  Do you think there is truth to the OWT that if you hold a ring on a string over your wrist it will predict the sex?  OWT's are OWT's.

My DS1's hb was consistently 160's.

My DS2's hb was consistently 130's.

Both boys.  Their hb's in utero do match with their personalities after birth, though!  DS1 is very intense and DS2 is a laid back soul!

Omg if that's true I'm in trouble! I can't remember what my daughter's hb was, but she is off the wall energetic. The last u/s they said this one's hb was 180!! I was hoping this baby would be mellow lol!

You jump on me for saying there might be something behind OWTs in some cases but you believe that their fetal HB matches their personality.    (Maybe you didn't mean it to sound as rude as it did, but it did come off rude, FYI.)

No, I don't put money on OWT but I do believe that there are reasons why certain things get a reputation for being one way or another.  Another pregnancy related example is the mom having a lot of heartburn during pregnancy and the baby being born with a lot of hair.  It's just fun that there are trends and that OWTs came to be in the first place.  Things aren't necessarily true 100% of the time but somewhere along the line someone started noticing a trend in some cases.  I think they're interesting and fun.  It's like criminal and racial profiling (which is part of my profession) or stereotyping in any form -- sometimes you can make generalizations based on trends and they end up being true... and sometimes not. (Ex.  German people are hot-headed; Irish people like to consume alcoholic beverages; English people have bad teeth; Native Americans are alcoholics.  -- I used those stereotypes because I am a descendent of those blood lines.  I am stubborn, can drink my friends under the table, but I have good teeth and I'm not an alcoholic.)  I am well-educated in the sciences, not an idiot, and I can still believe that there was some reason for these generalizations/OWTs for coming about in the first place.  That doesn't make them a good tool or a "science" but it's just fun and interesting.

My Lord this board is so overly sensitive I can't even stand to post here most of the time.

I was not "jumping" on you, I was just asking a question.

Of course I don't believe their heart rates truly predicted or matched their personalities.  I was joking.

Woah, who is jumping on whom?

FWIW, my son was consistently in the 150s.  So right in the middle.  And I had a ton of heartburn, and he was bald until 18 months old.  I carried all in the front, so that kills that OWT, but I was low, so I guess that goes with the boy thing.  And I am predicted to have both a boy and a girl, depending on which Chinese chart I use, and I turned 30 in my 2WW so depending one when implantation actually occurred, that could change everything.

Part of the reason we don't like to find out is so we can hear everyone's theories, including their OWT.  Go ahead and be excited, but I wouldn't bank on it based on the fact that your OB made that prediction.  Mine predicted I would go at 37 weeks... and I was 4 days late.  They don't know any better than we do until they see the goods nice and clear.

  • Yes, he guessed based off the HB, he told us that if the heartbeat stays high and steady then normally they see girls. I trust his opinion, he has been delivering babies for more then 30 years now.
  • My DD's HB was always in the high 120s and low 130s and she's a girl not a boy!

    It's really an OWT!

  • First of all I didn't say it was predicted because of the HIGH bpm, yes that is the OWT, but my OB stated that when the Heartbeat stays in the same RANGE he has seem mostly girls. I find that you all are very rude for trying to diminish my excitement. I think that I am going to stop posting things that make me happy because some of the ladies on here are just looking to hurt others feelings.

You really should grow up a bit and stop being so sensitive. It is really stupid to just trust everything a doctor says because he/she went to medical school.

My daughter's heart rate is in the low RANGE

No one asked for your opinion, so keep it to yourself. Telling someone to grow up because they feel people are being RUDE is not okay. How about you don't need to comment on MY post!

No one's looking to hurt others' feelings.  It is just reality that you can't predict sex based on heart rate, that is all people are saying.   Do you want people to lie and say "yay!  It's a girl!"  When, in reality it is 50-50 girl or boy?  I guess I, personally, would find that to be cruel if you really want a girl.

That would be the reason that I wrote we would find out for sure at the anatomy scan. For goodness sake, how about lets READ the whole thing people.
