Reglan for headaches

Today my doctor prescribed me reglan because I'm having horrible headaches. Has anyone taken this before? I know it's mainly for nausea so I guess that will be a bonus. I'm supposed to take it 4 times a day and with a Benadryl each time. I think I'll fall asleep with that much Benadryl! Any experiences with it?

Re: Reglan for headaches

  • I used to take Reglan for gastroparesis. I was in college at the time and had to stop taking it because I kept falling asleep in class!

  • My husband recommends that combo to me all the time (he's an ER doc) and I had one friend tell me it was a 'cocktail from heaven'.  Good luck!  Hope it helps!

  • I have actually suffered from Migraine my whole life and the last 2 weeks have just been horrible, I am missing so much work and sleep due to them. I have an appointment on Friday with my OB and am going to ask what my options are - Tylenol isnt cutting it.

If I get a different recommendation I will let you know - I am honestly hesistant to try anything because I have hear Tylenol was the only safe way to handle them....

Will keep you posted - good luck with the headaches!

  • I believe this is the med I was prescribed for my supply.  It has some significant potential side efffects.  I did take it, but I woudn't if I wasn't aware of the potential risks.

Yeah Tylenol does nothing at all for me. My Dr said it was totally safe to take and so did the pharmacist. I don't like taking anything unless it's totally necessary and I can barely function which isn't ok with a toddler. Hope you get something to help too.

Risks for you? I was told one potential side effect where you can twitch. Is there something else?

  • I remember my midwife saying it was an option to help my milk production with my first but for some reason she said it wasn't something she would choose because of weird side effects. I wish I could remember now exactly what it was she said. It might be worth it do some research. If you're in pain and the benefits outweigh the risks then yay, but like I said it might be worth some homework first.

Hmm...I did lots of googling and read the info from the pharmacist. There is one serious side effect linked to using it for more than 3 months where you can have a weird twitch. I don't plan on taking it forever. I am hoping my hormones will level out soon and I won't need it.
