Honestly.. Say you found yourself on a website where he chatted and you saw him say.. My wife is such an idiot because of blah blah blah... What would your reaction be? [Poll]
I would much rather DH call me an idiot while he was venting to a bunch of interwebz strangers than holding it in and it create problems in our marriage. Everybody needs to vent sometimes and I've called DH names just so that way it makes me feel better. Once I get everything out and we're both calm, we can sit down and talk about it.

If he said "my wife is an idiot because she bought the wrong beer" I would be more upset than if he said "my wife is an idiot because she walked into the glass door."
If he is doing it to put me down, then I would be upset. If it is a joking manner, no biggie.
oh that would piss me right off hands down. which is funny because its such a double standard. i am a hypocrite! but i dont think i air too much. i will vent but i will limit what i say (and never anything personal that i wouldn't want posted in the world wide web that could be used against me)
i mean if he does something really really really effed up i would never post about it here.
My thought is this: hubs and I love each other. If we call each other names out of frustration so what? At least we aren't being physically violent. Also, I don't thing idiot is the worst of the worst. I know if DH had a problem he would come to me - so I wouldn't care if he vented on a public forum. We all need to vent - the problem comes when you don't vent and instead blow up over some little situation.
Also your post made me think .. DH is really much nicer than I am. He would never call me an idiot. He did call me a b!tch a few times when he was super upset and I was being mean ... and then he felt aweful afterwards. I dont usually feel bad about calling him an Ahole
We call each other names in a jokingly manner. We've never name-called out of anger.
Well, I may have on here a time or two.
oops
This.
And I don't see the difference with me jokingly calling him an idiot for doing something dumb and him joking saying "genius, mavila, genius" for me doing something dumb.

In yo' face, Pumpkin!
What theory? LOL
I'm just wondering how many people are okay with their husbands calling them names in public.
Haha, I just have a feeling that this is one of those topics where girls will say they're cool with it, when they're really not.
BUSTED! I haven't replied yet because I haven't decided how I'd actually feel if I read "DoubleD was such an idiot today!" I really think it would depend on my interpretation of whatever it is he was venting about. If I thought I was right or justified about whatever was going down, I'd be pissed at him for name calling. If I could secretly see where he was coming from, I don't think I'd mind.
So what I'm tell you is: I'm a hypocritical, mood-swinging b!tch.

H would never call me an idiot or any other name on a forum. He's much, much nicer than I am and way less judgemental. If he did it woulld probably hurt my feelings but I would eventually realize that people say things they don't mean when they are frustrated and they feel powerless. Relationships are hard and complex.

I think "in public" is different than online. If DH was online posting and venting about me that is different than getting mad at me at a restaurant or around friends and calling me names. JMO.

I sent FI a link to my idiot post and his response was:
I know where I?m going to lunch now (and just for that I deserve birthday goods)Sounds like venting to me, but I have never called DH an idiot on a public forum (nor would I ever). I don't even talk about our fights on here.
I'd be more upset if he called me an idiot on Facebook.
It would depend on what the "blah blah blah" was.
If he said "my wife is an idiot because she bought the wrong beer" I would be more upset than if he said "my wife is an idiot because she walked into the glass door."

People are too sensitive.

Sadly, it would depend on my mood when I read it.

If he were to call me an idiot out of anger, I'd be hurt! No lie!!
But, I'm sure I did something idiot-worthy.
He'd still be a dead-man walking!
This is all too tricky - we should stop name calling..funny or not!
Yup to this too. Welcome to the club. bahahah

I think we're in the minority then with calling each other names as jokes AND thoroughly enjoying our meals at Hooters.
lololol
this made me lol for real!
We are with you. I lovingly call DH "douchey" and we frequently go to Hooters (with DD) for wings and chocolate cake.
