Anyone with a K'Tan? Weight question

I am thinking about ordering the K'Tan.  It says for use with babies 8 lbs and up.   It will probably be a little while before my LO is 8 lbs as she is 5 lb 6 oz now.   Is there any reason it is unsafe for smaller babies?   I guess I can order it and wait for her to hit 8 lbs, just wondering what the reasoning behind this was.

Re: Anyone with a K'Tan? Weight question

  • I'm not sure exactly why this is but I have a K'tan and a 6 lb baby and it works great for her. I do notice it's slightly big around her though, I just usually support her in the K'tan if it feels loose. It does feel safe though, like tight enough around her I'm just paranoid. Hope that helps a bit!

  • I bought a K'tan and wore it for about 1-2 hours with my 7lb 5oz baby.  I hated it!  I didn't feel like I could adjust it well to hold him securely and my back hurt a lot after only a short time of using it.  I ended up returning it and buying a Moby wrap, which I love!!!  It is so much more adjustable and provides a lot more back support.  I know this doesn't answer your weight question, but you might consider the Moby as an alternative to the K'tan.

  • I'm using a Ktan with DS2 who is about 7lbs now I would guess. I think its fine to use for smaller babies, as long as you follow all the safety recommendations. It took a while to get used to, but I really like it so far.  I'm using the kangaroo hold for now,  GL!

  • I'm using a k'tan with a 6 lb 5 oz baby... Actually she's up to 7lbs now. I like it. It does seem a little loose in the head neck area, but that could be user error as I'm just learning how to work it. For the most part it feels very supportive.
  • I used it for the first time today with my 5 lb 10 oz peanut. It fit, but there was definitely some extra fabric up top near her face so I had to fold it away. But it felt secure nonetheless.

  • We have been using ours constantly. DD has been from 6 lb 3 oz and 7 lb 2 oz so far. I guess I didn't read the part about 8 lb :)
