Pumping on weekends

DS normally only eats from one side when he nurses however when I pump at work I pump both breasts. My question is on weekends after DS nurses on one side do I need to pump the other side? Will I have supply issues if I don't? What do you do?

Re: Pumping on weekends

  • I usually don't pump on the weekends, unless I need bottles for date night or some other event where I won't be breastfeeding.

E usually only nurses from one side during the day, every 2 hrs.  I pump both sides every 4 hours during the week, so I think it all evens out.

For example, I pump at 9am and 1pm during the week, but I nurse 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm during the weekends.  There were days on the weekend when I would start to get uncomfortable (I was pumping way more than he was actually taking, those were the days!) but my supply was fine.

  • I did not with DD until I had supply issues and needed to save some extra.  This time I pump once on Sat and once on Sunday.  At work I pump both sides, normally he only eats on one.

  • My dd only eats one side for the first am feed, so as much as I hate it, I pump the other side while she eats. I have found that if i dont so this she gets oversupply issues like green poop.
