Pregnant after a Loss

Aw: Maternity Photo Shoot

Yesterday we took Maternity photos on our 31st week and my birthday. The photographer is a friend of mine and she is amazing. She didn't end up charging us for them and is doing a second session just because as well as we just planned newborn photos and birthing photos. She told me she would try and send me a few last night and she didn't get a chance to. I really want to see how they came out. I feel like I am waiting for a package and everytime I hear my phone ding for an email I think its her. Now I have to be patient. Crying

Questions regarding Birthing Photos. My Mom is in California and won't make it from the birth. She is scheduled to come the day after my due date and we have already decided that if Jackson doesn't come on his own we will induce 5 days early. Don't want to keep him in there too long based off my pregnancy trend. My friend gave us an amazing idea, she said that if we wanted she would be in the room with us while I was actually giving birth, although not anywhere down below and capture those first pictures of Jackson being born. i.e the Dr pulling him out placing him on my chest, DH cutting his umbilical cord etc. I never thought about it til she said it and Now all I can do is think about how I really want that. I know we will always remember his birth but having those photos right away are priceless in my eyes. My question is do you think it's weird? Of course I would never post these on FB or anything and they would be for DH and myself as well as immediate family like our Mothers if they wanted to see them.

Re: Aw: Maternity Photo Shoot

  • First of all, sounds like your maternity shoot was great! Can't wait to see the pics you post up here for us ladies!

Second, I would totally do the birthing room photos. I have a large family, that is quite literally spread out over the whole country and in Europe, so to be able to have those pics to show them would be priceless! So, to answer your question, I don't think it's weird at all! Go for it!

  • Personally I am not a fan of birth photos but I don't think it is weird for other people to do it.  I would probably be more likely to consider them if I had a friend as opposed to some random photographer.  You also will want to check with your hospital's policy.  Some do not allow photography or a certain number of people in the room.

  • I say go for it! One of my favorite photos is of DS taken moments after his birth. I had a c-section and my OB is holding him up in the air. The only bummer is that the clock on the wall behind them is wrong. If you look at my profile it is in my photos.

  • I don't think it's weird at all. You can hire professional photographers that do birthing pictures. My friend did them and has the most amazing pictures because of them. I think they are beautiful pictures and would do them if I could afford them. We are only doing newborn pictures. If you have the option and someone that is close to you willing to do them I say go for it.

  • Thank You Ladies, yeah she's my friend and before she started her own company she use to work for the company that does newborn photos in the hospital. We are blessed that she is doing them free of charge and of course I am going to get her something for doing them as well. I know 1 of the hospitals I can potentially deliver at will allow it. She's done it before for one of her other clients. I do have to find out if the other hospital will allow it.

  • I say go for it. My sister is a photographer and she did ours for DD and those pictures are priceless! Just double check that the doctor will allow more people in the birthing room.

  • Not at all. We have photos from DD1's birth. Nothing was below the waist and very tasteful. You may not look your best, but it's a moment you want I remember.

  • I say go for the birth photos, too!  It'll be great to have them as reminders for those "mommy brain" moments you'll have down the road - plus a way for family (if they want to), to feel like they didn't "miss out" on the special moments :)

  • I don't think that it is weird (as long as she is standing near your head).  I think they will be amazing pictures that you will love to have in the future.
