Hi ladies!
I went to the hospital on Friday after having a lot of pain and cramping for half the day. I was at work and bending a lot to help kids/clean tables, and not drinking as much as I know I should have been...I guess when I finally sat down to drink water it was a little too late and the pain never really went away.
They gave me some water at the hospital and put me on the monitors for a while. The contractions were definitely there but small and all in my uterus. They could tell that my uterus was irritated by the way that it would start to contract and then contract over and over. They tested my urine for a uti...I should have those results by Monday and I'm following up with my OB at my regular appt on the 17th. My cervix is High, long and closed, however if the uterine contractions start to cause change there, we will revisit that then. I'm confused just because they told me ANYTHING can cause the contractions from not drinking, to orgasm, to the baby moving...but didn't put me on any restrictions or anything other than giving me the day off on Friday to rest and hydrate with my feet up/destress a little bit...
My question for others is: Did you find there were times of day or just things that made the irritability worse? Have you been able to find anything specific that helps? Were you put on restriction at all???
TIA!!!
Re: Irritable Uterus?? Come In!
I'm only 7 weeks, and I already have issues with "irritable uterus". After a hard day at work (I'm an RN), I definitely feel cramps and tightness. My OB was surprised. I was told to make sure I keep hydrated at work, and to try to keep my feet up as much as possible (yeah, that happens at work. :P I try at least). I am also not supposed to lift anything over 15lbs, so basically any patient maneuvering is out.
The only thing that really helps me is resting throughout the day. On slower days, when I'm able to sit to chart, or when I'm in recovery room (there's a lot of sitting there), I feel a lot better. I can only imagine this will get worse as time goes on, so I plan on spending any time I can sitting on my butt.

I had it with DD and would have 6-10 ctx / hour almost every evening. I went in for them once when they were timetable (every 7 min for 2 hours when I was only 29 weeks), but they never did anything to my cervix. It was just really nerve-wracking to sit/lay on the couch with all those ctx every night and hope that they really were just BH ctx and not PTL.
The only thing that helped me was modified bedrest. If I was on my feet for more than a few minutes, they would start up, and even if I stayed off my feet all day I would have at least 6/hr at night.
