Cough from draining.

LO is on the tailend of a cold and she is draining like crazy. Since she is draining she has a cough, trying to cough up the phlegm. I called the doctor and she said to use Saline (which I already am using) and in extreme cases use benedryl at night. I was kind of surprised I wasn't told triaminic or dimetapp. Any advice?

DS is going through the same thing right now. I've just been cleaning out his nose as often as I can. I haven't given him any medicine, but I was told benedryl as well. At night I've been using a vaporizer with some Vick's liquid, that seems to help his cough at night.

No cold/cough medications under 2. Benadryl will help if the saline isn't cutting it.

DD has had a cough and runny nose for almost 2 weeks. I've only been using the vaporizer at night and Vicks on her chest, as well as the Saline. Her nose got pretty raw, so I've put aquaphor on that too. I heard that not to use any medicine too, so I haven't.

Thanks ladies. She is not coughing nearly as much. I think it was probably just all breaking loose from sleeping with the humidifier. We'll give it another go tonight and see how she is in the morning. I HATE baby colds!!

Be careful...DDs drainage went to her ears and now theyre infected. If your baby stops sleeping well, you might want to have her looked at.
