Pregnant after 35

Worst baby brain mistake

I forgot to go to the doctor.  I have never missed a doctor appointment in my life.  yesterday I went to the nurse at to get my BP checked and it was elevated and my hands and feet were very swollen.  The nurse told me that I needed to call my doctor ASAP.  I called DH to tell him what was going on so he could be ready to go to the doctor/ER if needed.  He then remembered that I had an appontment yesterday that I missed.  I called my doctors office and they were super nice about it.  They debated sending me to the ER or waiting for an appointment today.  Luckily I can go today but I will not see my regular guy.

Next time I will have someone else put my doctors appointments on my calendar for me or double check that I actually picked the correct date.

  • Seems to happen sometimes. At least the doctors were understanding about it and rescheduled for you. Hopefully the high BP and swelling aren't due to anything serious.

  • I hope it's nothing, but as someone who went through preeclampsia, I recommend that you follow up with your doctor (excessive swelling and elevated BP are good tipoffs to preeclampsia).  Even if they say you're OK right now, keep an eye on your health and keep bugging them if you feel something is off.  My doctor kind of ignored the symptoms with me and it blew up out of control.

    Anyways, good luck and KUP.

  • It wasn't a wonky BP day.  This has been going on for two weeks.  Preeclamsia is not diagnosed this early in pregnancy but based on my past medical history, they are still concerned about my kidneys.  I have to do a hour urine collection tomorrow and then go to nephrology next week.  I just wish that I would have remembered my appointment yesterday so I could see my regular doctor instead of someone new.

  • Oops. Sorry to hear about your issues, and sorry you'll have to see a new doctor. It helps so much when you and your doctor have an established relationship.

  • Ugh, at least they're trying to stay on top of things. Hopefully you can catch up with your regular doctor along the way. Fingers crossed for you and your little one.

  • I have to go to the nephrologist next week.I guess just one more specialist to add to my team.  After this I can go back to my regular OB as long as I remember to show up for my appointments.  His office would not make me Friday appointments since the first time I went it was on a Wednesday.  Now that I went on a Thursday today I convinced them to let me switch to Fridays.  That means that I can go to appointments on my Friday off and I don't have to use any sick leave for regular appointments.  There is a sliver lining in everything.

  • me too!  I'd never missed any doc appt in my life except one NP appt during this pregnancy.  They told me to reschedule when I called them but dh told me to go there despite of what they said.  The NP was very nice and same as the nurse except the front desk who wanted to leave early and told me to reschedule for another day.
