Down to 2 girl's names.. opinions please

Hello ladies,

My husband and I thought that we had pretty much settled on a name, "Dahlia Eve".  However, we were still having some second thoughts due to my niece being named "Delilah".. the names are somewhat similar.  Anyway, he brought up the name "Viviana", a few days ago and now we really love both names and we're not sure which we'd like to go with.  I'm just curious what others think?

Dahlia Eve  (Dahlia after DH's grandmother.. the Dahlia is also a flower native to Mexico.. he's Mexican.  Only issue is that my niece is named "Delilah", which we could overlook, however, it does bother us a bit)

Viviana James  (Love the name Viviana and we could call her "Vivi" for short.. which is really cute.  "James" after my dad.  We really want to incorporate a family name but didn't like any female family names with Viviana.. so we thought, why not a man's name?  Is this really strange?  Personally, I like the flow and love "Vivi James")

Any thoughts, opinions, etc. would be greatly appreciated Big Smile

  • I think both names are nice. If you want to honor your dad, what about Jamie as a MN? That's a girl's name but still very close to James. Or maybe even go with Vivian Jamie? (Just throwing it out there.) You have picked two very pretty names.

  • I like Dahlia better than Viviana, but both are great names. I think James is fine in the MN spot since it's a family name (although you might save it for a future son?), and Vivi James is pretty cute. I don't think Dahlia Eve flows very well - maybe Dahlia James?

  • While I would never like a FN James for a female, I think it's cute for a MN!

Vivian was on my short list for our little girl, but DH vetoed it :( Viviana is very sweet!

  • Dahlia Eve. I don't like Viviana and James on a girl gets a big thumbs down from me, even when it's a family name.
  • Can I vote for Dahlia James or Vivian James?

Sure!  I like "Dahlia James" as well.  I also like "Vivian", however, "Viviana" would be the Spanish variation of the name "Vivian", which is somewhat important to us.

  • Dahlia Eve is soooo pretty!

  • I like Dahlia Eve. It's not my style but I can totally see it being yours. I like the meaning behind it too. BUT, I do understand why you're not so sure about it anymore. How often do you see your niece? If I were in the same situation and saw my niece often, I don't think I could handle the similarity. But, if I didn't see her often, I'm not sure it would bug me that much. Hmm...or maybe it would...

I'm not a fan of Viviana. But I really like Vivienne. I think James is totally fine in the MN spot for a girl.

I prefer Dahlia Eve over Viviana.  I'm just not a big fan of -ana or -ella names.  I do like the suggestion of Dahlia James alot too!

    Yes, this.

  • I can't help but think of the Black Dahlia when I hear Dahlia Eve. I really like the name Eve, but I can't seem to get past the Dahlia.

I'm not a huge fan of Viviana either, but I think in this case I'd vote for Viviana James.
