How does your SO bond with LO?

Naturally, my DD has a stronger bond with me than with my DH. Yesterday, I left DD with DH for about an hour to grocery shop. DD cried the entire time that I was gone, but stopped as soon as I returned and held her.  While I was gone, DH held her, rocked her, tried to feed her, changed her, etc. in an attempt to soothe her, but it was like she didn't even recognize him.

My DH feeds her a bottle, changes her diaper, holds, plays, and talks to her every day.  What else can he do so that DD and DH start to have a stronger bond?

TIA!

  • He makes up songs for him- like verse to Wheels on the Bus about members of our family, our dog, our cat, etc.  Give it time; your LO is little but she'll be Daddy's Little Girl in no time!

  • Maybe try making a solid routine she will learn to recognize? Maybe DH could be in charge of giving her a bath or story time before bed each night!

  • I agree, give it some time. My DS and DH didn't have trouble bonding but the time they spend together best is napping together. DH puts DS tummy down on his chest.

Ooo that just made me think doing skin to skin time between your LO and SO. That could lead to great bonding. Good luck!
  • Thanks ladies! We'll be patient and I am sure that over time they will be best buddies.  If there are other ideas out there, I would love to hear them! Big Smile

  • We EFF so DH gives at least 1-2 bottles a night to DD2, and on the weekends, he'll do almost all of them. :)
