Pregnant after a Loss

Prune juice, why are you so gross??

I have thus far been managing somewhat successfully to stay regular by eating fruit and drinking lots of water, but lately things are just not moving along quite as smoothly as they should.  So I bought some prune juice.  I tried drinking a glass of it this morning.  It very nearly became the first time I threw up this pregnancy.  I had to stop and pour 1/3 of the glass down the sink, and I was chasing with water.  It makes me shiver just thinking about how awful it was.  Has anyone else tried this little gem of a solution?  How did you get it down??

I'm going to have to bake some bran muffins, methinks.

Re: Prune juice, why are you so gross??

  • I usually go for Apple juice...works pretty well, for me! And actually tastes decent (I don't really like apple juice, but much better than prune!)

  • I know what you mean! I have to down a glass every once in a while. The first time I drank it, it was almost as bad as you described but I got used to it. I hold my breath, it goes down the hatch quick, and follow with water. it does work. Dried prunes taste better.

Ok the title of this made me LOL. Hilarious

And that is EXACTLY why I use Miralax. It actually DOES dissolve totally in any liquid (although I don't recommend fizzy drinks) and it works without any cramping.

Get thee to a CVS... STAT!

I've done Miralax too, when desperate. Not a prune juice fan. Pear juice has worked for DD, if that helps.

  • I hear you! What I always did was make a glass of half prune juice and half apple juice. It made it a lot sweeter and both are supposed to help!

This exactly. My SS has some issues getting backed up periodically. (apparently he was hospitalized for it when he was very little) The dr told my husband to give him miralax and it seems to work. We all use it as needed and it does the trick with no belly aches.

  • I haven't tried the juice but I don't think the dried prunes are too bad. To me they just taste like a bland less sweet raisin and they seem to work well.
  • You should try Plumsmart, I'm pretty sure it does the same thing and it tastes pretty good.

  • I usually eat dried apricots or prunes.  I can't imagine drinking prune juice but the dried prunes are actually pretty tasty.  And they seem to do the trick!

  • It's better with a squeeze of lime or lemon juice on top. And it has to be really cold!

I started eating oatmeal and/or an apple a day, and that has made a huge difference.

  • Haha - I had the exact same experience, except that it WAS the first time I lost my stomach in this pregnancy. :). Now just thinking about the stuff makes me feel sick - even your title post made my stomach turn.  It's so disgusting! I use Metamucil.

  • I have never tried the juice, I take metimucil at night.

But I love stewed prunes, and they get the party started.

You take a little bit of water, some sugar and some dried prunes and kind of just stew them until they get soft.

It sounds gross, but it really tastes like a dessert.
