8 week old bumped head

My 8 week old squirmed out of her moby wrap today, and hit her head against our glass desk, making a pretty loud noise. After being a little stunned, she started crying.

We called the nurse, who asked us to check for vomiting, eyes dilated, and swelling of the forehead. I don't see any of this, but will be extra vigilant for a while.

Even though I'm reading and am told this kind of thing happens, I'm still freaking out. Anyone weigh in with any similar experience? Feel terrible.

Re: 8 week old bumped head

  • When I was burping my son this morning he bobbled his head and hit me in the chin. It hurt me but didn't seem to phase him. These things happen. It's not your fault. She's probably long forgotten the whole thing.

  • Accidents happen, often. It is so scary, but kids heal pretty quickly. I think its often more traumatizing for moms and dads. My cousin fell down the status when she was ten months and broke her arm. She never learned to crawl and went straight to walking. She's a college freshman and is fine.

Oh and yesterday I smacked dd in the face while buckling her into the car seat. She didn't cry... I did.

  • Thanks for the reassurance; I think the sound when she made contact really freaked me out b/c it was loud, but maybe being a mom amplified that sound a little bit. Plus she's a small baby, and young, which made me paranoid to begin with.

Now I'm reading into every little noise, spit up, movement she makes =P Guess this comes with the mommyhood territory. She's my first, if you can't tell =)
