Teething

Dear Moms,

I would like to know how many of you are there whose babies are already teething ? My son is 3.5 months now and is showing all symptoms of teething - like excessive saliva, constant finger in his mouth which he doesnt suck but is rubbing against his gums, head always at a little higher temperature, waking up often in nights and sometimes in night screaming out of pain...( i know this cry is different from his colic cry ) .... any ladies in same boat ?

also, any pain reducing methods you know of ?

Thanks

Re: Teething

  • My first baby didn't get a tooth until much later but I could have sworn this one was getting one last week.  There was one night where he cried all night and acted totally not like himself.  He has never done that and was sleeping completely through the night prior.  He was also drooling and eating his hands, ended up with a fever too.  It lasted a day and then he was totally fine and we haven't seen anything since.  From what I have read, they can be teething for months before anything actually shows up.  Sorry, I know that is not encouraging.  I always have a hard time telling when is actual teething or if it's something else.  Some babies are just droolers and many eat their hands all the time anyway.

  • My LO is 4 months and has 2 teeth. I was sure he was teething around 2 months and people told me i was crazy! I bought those Nuby teethers and froze them, used baby oragel, and the 2 nights he was inconsolable I used alternating advil/tylenol. The next days both teeth cut through. He also loved when I massaged his gums with my finger. Good luck!
  • I think LO is teething. She :eats my hands voraciously and is sleeping poorly, drooling a ton...

  • I also think DD is getting a tooth.  For the same reasons as y'all listed...

My pedi told me not to use Advil until baby is 6 months old.... so we're back to just Tylenol, gripe water and teething rings from the fridge...

  • Yep!  Same problem here!  My little guy has 2 red bumps and last night, after he FINALLY fell asleep.. I saw the nub!

  • I think that DD is teething, but it kind of seems like she'll be one of those babies who teeths for a good while before anything actually pops out - she's chewing on her hands/my hands/anything else she can get in her mouth like crazy and is very drooly.

Have you tried any frozen teethers or an amber teething necklace (the kind that you wear and LO can gnaw on when you're holding him, not the kind that babies wear yet)?

Hope he gets some relief soon!

Weird! Mine recommended it to me 3 days ago. Funny how different doctors all say different things!
  • I can see the outline of DS's top front teeth through his gums, although they don't look near to pushing through yet. However, I do see a white bump on his gum back farther, like maybe an incisor? I got excited until a friend told me she could see her son's teeth for ages before they came in. I was so hoping that might be the cause of his short naps and general crankiness, but I guess instead maybe PMS is contagious. This is going to be such a long week.

  • DS is also teething. He has two white bumps on the bottom. I gave orajel once until I read some really disturbing articles about allergic reactions. I have used Tylenol when he got really bad. We also got teething tablets which are chamomile and belladona sp? I can't imagine they have very much belladona in them though otherwise LO would pass right out and he doesn't, but he definitely calms down. I put my finger in a bottle nipple and let him chew on it.
  • DS has been teething for about 2 weeks now and has 6 teeth coming in at the same time. Poor little guy. 3 popped out today and I imagine the other 3 are going to make an appearance any time now. We give him Tylenol at night and oragel during the day. Also he loves having us gently rub the area the teeth are coming in.

  • My pediatrician also said no Advil until 6 months. She also said not to give anyteething stuff with belladonna and that teething doesn't cause an elevated temp. Just throwing that out there!
