Hello...we are expecting our first baby in April and I plan to stop working full time and stay home with our baby.. can you tell me what a typical day with a newborn will be like? Will I know what to do?!
You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. At first, it's really just diaper change, feed, sleep, repeat. Believe everyone who says to sleep when they sleep , especially at first. Let your housework go if you need to, and just worry about cuddling that baby! enjoy, and good luck!
Just don't have any delusions about a sparkly clean house, dinner on the table every night, and free time to catch up on your reading. It will be all baby, all the time for those first few months. Good luck!
Expect to not be able to put baby down without some crying. I think that was the biggest shock to me. I was not prepared for DD to cry every time I tried to do anything else. Enjoy the cuddle time, it goes so fast.
I wake up @ 5 with a wide awake babe who just wants to cry or suck my nips off. He's awake til 8 when he will sleep on his tummy or be held. At 10 he wants to marathon feed off on til 12. Repeat til 8 where he has a wide awake period where he might let dad hold him. Sleep until 12:30 fussy til 1 sleep til 3 eat up at 5.
This is my daily routine with my 8 day old son. He hates the swing and bouncer and being swaddled!
I hope I'm not flamed but in my case it wasn't baby all day, all she did was sleep... I found it SO boring. I remember getting her out of the bed to wear her in the Moby just to have her closer to me even though she was happy in the bed. I was anticipating lots of work, crying, feeding but in our case it was never that way. Until she was about 6 months old she slept more than any baby I'd ever known.
DS was also an easy baby. I'm not saying it to brag but just know that all babies are different. It was so much easier than my now 17 month old who NEVER stops moving! You can put the baby anywhere and he/she will stay there!!!
I also found getting out of the house every day, for some activity, was a big help!
Get a carrier thats easy to get the baby in and out of- in those first several weeks, its a lifesaver to wear them, but you dont want to waste precious minutes figuring out conplicated ties or whatever. I really like my K'tan for this reason.
