What did you/would you eat?
Last pregnancy, I was able to not eat before my very early morning appointment and just go without. They gave me the drink to take at home an hour before I came in for the appointment.
This time, I have to be at work for about an hour and a half before they even give me the drink to take, then I have to wait the extra hour before getting my bloodwork done. So, add that to the time it takes for me to commute and get ready, I'll be up for probably four hours before I can eat anything, and that's just not going to happen.
So, what are some safe options for me to eat that morning that are not going to cause me to get a false positive?
Thanks in advance!
Re: If you had to eat before your glucose testing...
I would say any egg breakfast would be ok. Nothing like pancakes or cereal...
My dr told me nothing past midnight, so I just stuffed myself around 11:30 the night before and was pretty good until about 10, when then finally tested me. Not sure what time your appointment is, but maybe if you're concerned about a false positive, you could just try something like that?
First you have to make sure that YOUR TEST allows for eating beforehand. One person's test might be different than someone else's test for whatever reason, might skew their results.
I normally eat like an egg with cheese and yogurt or something very light and minimal carbs.
My doc said protein and complex carbs, but mostly protein. Mine was at 3:30, so I had steak and veggies with just a little potatoes for lunch. I should have heard by today if there was a problem and haven't yet, so I'm crossing my fingers that I passed!
My dr. said I could eat anything before hand, but that just makes me nervous. I'm not a huge meat fan so maybe I'll have an egg with cheese or something like that. Thanks!
Mine was at 3pm. They told me to eat normally... I had to take a half-day off of work, so I had lunch with a friend, which included breadsticks and a Coke!
Like a pp mentioned -- If they don't tell you to fast or to eat a certain way, the results will be more accurate if you eat like normal!
I was told to eat my normal b'fast, so I did (homemade granola + fruit + plain yogurt + milk). I ate b'fast around 8am, drank glucola at 9:30a, had blood drawn at 10:30a. My glucose level came back at 91.
If you are borderline, it's better to find out you are than try to "cheat" the system.

I did not eat before my test, but the doctor told me if I felt I needed something, to eat protein and stay away from carbs. Eggs are a good choice. I'm sure the earlier you can eat the better too, so you don't go in for the test right after your meal.
I think the big thing with eating before the 1 hour test is that it can give you a false result, which can lead to the 3 hour test where you MUST fast.
