My doctor talked to me about induction today. I'm 35 weeks and baby is measuring at full term and HUGE. My doctor gave me 7 days to decide if I want to schedule an induction at 39 weeks.
PROS for induction:
I will be able to schedule labor with with MY doctor, instead of whoever is on call.
The baby is huge and looked really uncomfortable at my sonogram today (he's all contorted in there), I'm running out of room and already super uncomfortable.
Having an "end date" is obviously appealing
I'm not going to sugar coat this, I am a huge wuss when it comes to pain, so being induced at the hospital where I can get drugs ASAP is ideal.
CONS:
?
Did any of you have complications with your induction? Obviously this is a medical intervention that I know many of you chose not to take. Any advice on whether or not to do it!?

It was a bummer, but actually I have to say that it made me less nervous to go to the hospital when I actually was in labor, because I had done it before!
As it turned out, I had the induction on Wednesday, it failed and then I went into labor Friday night. Not sure if the induction helped with that or if nature just took it's course. I ended up with a csection, but it was because the baby was sunny side up and I have super tight pelvic bones...so don't worry about that.
I'd hate for either of those to happen to you, but if they do, just hang in there and realize that it'll all be fine! That baby will come one way or the either. All in all, I think I had a great birth experience. If you can't think of any negatives on your own, I would go ahead with being induced, especially if your dr recommends it.
Good luck!
I had an induction but ultimately had to have a c-section. I wish I had just gone straight to c-section in some ways.
I was in labor for 30 hours with my induction, beginning when contractions first started, and ending with 2 1/2 hours of pushing after being told I would probably have to have a csection.
it was no walk in the park, but DD needed to come out, my placenta was no longer providing what she needed.
Personally, I wouldn't do it based on estimated size alone, as they can be off by quite a bit!
(I usually post on the August 2012 board)
I was induced at 39 weeks after determining via a Bishop's score that the induction would be favorable. They started pitocin at 8 PM, broke my water at 10 PM, epidural at 10:30 PM and at 3:30 AM I had my little girl after an hour of pushing. I didn't have any problems or complications. Granted, my induction wasn't because my baby was measuring large, it was a logistic issue. If my OB didn't think it would be safe he wouldn't have induced me.
Definitely don't let your ob pressure you into making a decision now. As pp have said, ultra sound size estimates are just that...estimates. Three days before having DD she "weighed in" at just over 6 pounds as per the ultra sound machine. When I had her she weighed 8 pounds.
I was induced due to pre-e at 39 weeks and ended up having a c-section. I didn't have any pitocin, I requested they break my water before doing any medicine interventions and breaking my water really sped things along, however, DD just didn't want to descend down the birth canal.
this exactly. Never again!
Positive Story.
I loved my induction, wasn't working but once they popped my waters it was on like donkey cong and I was screaming "M-effers" real quick. Got an epi 10 Minutes later and popped her out an hour later.
Mine was a planned induction at 39 weeks plus 5.
Would LOVE for my next baby to go the same way.
My first was all Natural, took 22 Hours. 10 hours of constant contractions before I got to 4 cm where they could give me an epi. By the time it came to pushing I was exhausted and it took 2 hours to push her out.
Odd fact.
My child who made it to 40 weeks all Natural was a 1lb 2oz lighter than my 2 day early induction baby.
My induction with my first was as simple as having them break my water and my now 4 year old DD was born 5 1/2 hours later.
My second induction was, well, lets go with complex... They broke my water at 10am. Contractions never started. They added pitocin at 1pm. Contractions got going and I got an epidural and 3cm at around 5pm. At around 9pm I was 10cm and felt I needed to push. I pushed for 2 1/2 hours only to find out my DD had turned herself sunny side up during labour and the only way for her to be safely delivered was an emergecy c-section because I was now at risk for uterine abruption due to pushing for so long and if they used the vacuum it would have most likely ended in an emergency c-section followed by a hysterectomy
Both inductions were due to GD, otherwise I would have just waited until I went into labour in my own.
That said it really boils down to you. Is it medically necessary? Are you or baby at risk for any reason? Are you more confortable with an induction than spontanious labour?
I can't really complain about the process of being induced. I was more bummed about having to pretty much stop my epidural because i couldn't feel myself pushing. That was the worst!
Good luck to you. I think I'd wait to be induced until after 40 weeks at least.
I was induced at 40weeks exactly. My baby - born almost 9 lbs - was huge compared to my frame. I'm very petite at only 5'2" so I'm assuming that was why my doc scheduled my induction. Also I was positive for Group B strep.
As far as the actual induction went, it was very easy. I am a wuss too so I got an epidural within a few hours of being there. I want to say I was only 1.5cm dilated when I had it but that was before my doc broke my water.
I really wasn't either for or against the induction. I was honestly just ready for the end and wanted my little girl already. I was afraid I would need a C section, but luckily that wasn't necessary.
I hope you can make a decision and everything goes smoothly.
I would 100% never be induced based on a growth u/s. I am 4'9 and weighed about 95lbs prepregnancy. At 36 weeks, I was told DS was measuring 7'15 and his head was measuring at 40+ weeks. I freaked out. But DS came on his own at 40 weeks, weighing 7'11 and with a normal sized head.
I actually had to be put on pitocin both times - for failing to progress once my water broke on it's on. It sucks and I would never recommend it.
This is pretty much me. With my first I was induced because I was having contractions in the office, my blood pressure was a little high and I was dilating already. With my second it was decided for me a 38 weeks. I had Group B, had a 7.5 lb estimate, I lived OOT and my last labor had been only 5 hours and they were concerned that since I was already at 4 cm that I might go too quickly for antibotics. If i had not wanted to be induced I could have but I decided it was best for me and the baby and lets face it easier to plan for.
I have heard that a lot of inductions end up in c sections.
(Reuters Health) - First-time mothers who have their labor induced may face a greater risk of needing a cesarean section than those who go into labor naturally, a new study finds.

Positive Story
I was induced at 39 weeks. My LO measured large as well. She was 9 lbs 1 oz when she was born. She measured 9 lbs give or take 23oz. My OBGYN recommended I be induced because she was so large and she wanted my birthing experience to be a good one. However I trusted my OB with my life and my child's so I told her we would do whatever was necessary for the best delivery. I figured she was the professional in the room and I wasn't going to pretend to know enough about being induced. I took her lead and was induced (on labor day)
I went in monday night was given a medicine to ripen my cervix and started pitocin the following morning at 7:30AM. My contractions began at about 8-8:30AM and I delivered LO at 12:50PM. Mine was successful. I loved how it was planned...something we could put on the calendar instead of a spur of the moment thing.
I had a really good experience and would honestly do it all over again the same exact way. LO measured big and the OB didn't want her getting any bigger and I was able to deliver vaginally with no complications what so ever.
Do what you feel comfortable with. Just remember everyone is different.
