Yes and no. Yes in the sense that you will almost certainly be offered an amnio and a full array of tests, and they might want to/be willing to monitor you a little more closely than someone who is younger (i.e., more ultrasounds), but are you REALLY significantly more likely to have problems with your baby? If you are otherwise healthy, no. I am 41, will be 42 when I deliver, and got my first-trimester screen results today. My odds for Down's and trisomy 13 or 18 are those of a much younger woman. I told my ob at my first visit not to treat me like some frail old woman, and so far she is complying.
Over-40 parents...what we lack in vigor, we make up for with cunning.
My doctor says no I am not automatically high risk. You will likely be offered more of the prenatal testing but that is up to you if you want it. I am getting some extra monitoring early on because of my losses but unless something else arises I will have "normal" care as far as I know.
TTC since Dec. 2010. Me: 37, DH: 38...unexplained RPL BFP #1 - missed m/c 4.18.11 found @8w3d, d&c @13w BFP #2 blighted ovum found 8.2011 @8w, misoprostol BFP#3 - missed m/c 6.11.12 @ 9w3d, d&c revealed extra chromosome 15 BFP#4 8.10.12, DD born 4/26/13
No it doesn't. I'm 38 and my doctor hasn't treated me any different or insisted on any tests. He's given me information but hasn't said I have to do anything specific. Every doctor is different, but unless you have other major health issues your doctor won't necessarily treat you as high risk.
LOL, I was 34 when I had my first child. I considered myself pretty young then. Definitely not AMA. :-)
The only difference between this pregnancy and that one is that now I see a maternal-fetal specialist for higher-level ultrasounds. Neither he nor my regular OB doctor have recommended any extra testing.

I've wondered this myself. I will be 35 when I deliver and thus far, my doc hasn't treated me any differently than any other normal pregnancy.
Now where did I put my glasses? I need to be able to read the early bird menu...
