Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Bath Time

Can anyone help with suggestions on how to make Bathtime fun?? My son is 17 months, he went from loving the bath, to hating it, then back to loving it and now we are back to hating it again, we just moved into a new house, and he HATES bathtime!.. we have tried putting him in once the water is in, putting him in while its filling, we tried bubbles, and toys.. he just screams.. he is in long enough to get clean and then he is done.. he is completely fine and happy once he is out... Any ideas???

Re: Bath Time

  • Eh, I wouldn't push it. If you can get him in and get him clean, then I'd just leave it at that. 17 months is a very tricky, stubborn age, and it's ok that he doesn't like his bath. As he gets older, this will change. For now, I wouldn't fight this.

  • My LO was like this for a while, but she's much younger, so if it's age related, this is probably no help, but during her "hate this" stage, I would get in with her, eventually she didn't care if I was in the tub or not - just a thought!  GL!

  • I literally sing songs the whole time.. I make up songs explaining what I'm doing.

This is the way we wash our feet, wash our feet, wash our feet..

If  I'm not sing and acting like a complete idiot DD will start trying to stand and will be bored of her toys

another  idea would be to get some of those bath time crayons?!?!

  • Have you tried getting in with him? Or maybe a bath mat, if you don't have one he might not like the feeling of sliding around so much... we have one with elmos on it that DD loves. Other then that I don't have much advice, DD has never had a problem with baths. Like PP said, if he tolerates it enough to get him clean then I would just wait it out and hopefully it will pass like it did before.

  • Could he be too tired? Is it better earlier in the day?
  • Try cooler or warmer? Maybe there isn't anything you can do. Remember everything is a phase.
