Just curious if everyone is still waiting 3 days between new foods. We didn't start food until 6 months and then DD was sick for about a month, and we were slow. I feel like she needs more variety, especially in proteins. Somebody had told me that consider testing a food based on the color, so if the baby had squash, then they wouldn't consider pumpkin, sweet potato, etc to be new foods. Just curious what everyone did. I was thinking about starting pinto beans and chickpeas since she didn't have any issues with black beans.

Re: Solids & New Foods
I quit following that rule maybe a month ago or so. We mainly do Gerber or Beech Nut purees and he has pretty much tried them all. But he also gets bits and pieces of food off our plates.. and there is no way I'm gonna remember all that. We don't give him anything with peanuts or honey.. pretty much anything else is fair game.
We don't have any food allergies in our family, so I'm not too worried about a reaction.
We are not intentionally observing the 3 (or 4) day rule. Sometimes it happens; other times it doesn't. I have yet to give him protein more because our pediatrician said it wasn't necessary until closer to 9 months and because the purees remind me of dog puke.
The only things I really don't let LO eat are tomatoes and the obvious (honey/peanuts). He's had chocolate, a little bit of dairy. DH has some food allergies but we haven't narrowed it down yet (except for the shellfish, though I think there may be a bit of a nut allergy); so I tend to be a bit cautious.

I haven't ever followed the 3 day rule. She's had everything (including a bit of honey graham cracker so lovingingly shared with her by her sister - I'm still avoiding honey though because it's still not worth the risk and the honey in a graham cracker is minimal) from shrimp the other day in costco to peanut butter toast last week. With the peanut butter I gave it in the morning and then watched carefully all day and didn't give anything new for a couple days, but that was also because she's had pretty much everything else.
We also do BLW so she gets what we are eating, which is why we never followed the rule.

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
This for us too. We also avoid shellfish in addition to honey and nuts (though we slipped and gave him pecan ice cream). I'll introduce those when he hits a year.
