TSH experts?

I have the opposite of McIrish's situation going on right now.

Back in March '11, my TSH level was over 5.0, so my old RE put me on synthroid, which I stayed on until July '12. I never asked for my TSH results while with my old RE, but now know from records that it had gotten down very low, like < .2, while cycling. (Is there such a thing as too low?) But, when testing for our DE cycle, while still on synthroid - I was at 2.08. Just tested again last week, after 9 weeks off of synthroid - and it was 2.89. My current RE said they would test again when I start Delestrogen.

If you've had varying levels, how often do you get your TSH tested during a cycle? Are there any dietary/lifestyle changes that affect TSH?

Re: TSH experts?

  • I don't know about low TSH but my ME tests me prior to a cycle and I am supposed to contact her as soon as I get a BFP. My RE tests me at the start of a cycle, sometimes midway instead (I'm not sure what their criteria is since they get my MEs test results) and I'm doing a panel with my RI at beta which may include TSH.

  • I feel like the normal range is .4 to 2.0. I know I am being monitored because my tsh is .26. Definitely ask for them to run the full thyroid panel. If your tsh is slightly off, but others are normal, it can give them a better idea of whats going on . I have a list of labs from my endo in front of me...he's checking my tsh, free. t3 4, antithyroid antibodies, and thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin. When I was cycling I had my 're run it each time, just before. Now, I'm being monitored monthly by my endo. I know my Acu was always very concerned about my tsh...she felt it played a large role in being able to get and sustain a pgncy.

  • Thanks, ladies, I should have added that I had a full thyroid panel run in July, and everything else came back normal then.

FWIW, my endo runs the full panel each time. He said if my tsh is off, he wants to see what everything else looks like. Right now, he's checking me once a month.
