Pregnant after 35

ohh M/S how I love thee

I am so glad I didnt brag about the fact I was NOT having morning sickness... cuz I would have to retract that statement.   Although I am not throwing up, I feel like I could, my stomach hurts I am nautious nothing sounds good and IF it does by the time I get it fixed it is repulsing.  * head desk*

today I thought I wanted french fries, so I put some in the oven.. well the smell made me nautious so when they got done I  just left them on the stove... ugghh.  So I made a grilled cheese.... not nutritious by any stretch but at least it went down.  Now I am munching on saltines and drinking Pepsi... I had quit drinking pop but felt that maybe the sugar and carbonation might settle my tummy which is seems to be doing.

I am also going to try and choke down some yogurt.

What a roller coaster ride this is going to be... but I am NOT complaining.

  • I guess we could rephrase that old chestnut "Every push gets you closer to your baby" to "Every heave..." Gross but true. Saltines are fabulous. I need to buy stock in Zesta.

Strange but true: one thing that nearly always sounds good to me is clementines. They're small, so you don't feel like you've committed to eating a lot of food, and they're moist and a little sweet. Not to mention a great source of Vitamin C.

  • I've been on a green grapes and strawberries kick, they go down pretty easy and I feel like I'm getting extra hydration from them because it seems like I'm dying of thirst constanstly. Grill cheese has been my standby at least a few times a week though, hey at least I'm getting some calcium...

Awesome!  Just last night, I was craving a grilled cheese, and I thought, that's a weird thing to crave.  Guess not!  lol.

  • OK, I have to chime in again: I made my DH go out specifically to buy grilled cheese ingredients on Saturday so I could have a GC sandwich.

Hmm, grilled cheese...sounds good...*wanders off to kitchen*

  • I think I should have bought stock in ginger chews. And organic ginger ale (i.e. ginger ale that actually has real ginger in it). I drink one bottle of ginger ale instead of my morning decaf iced mocha.

MH's cereal in the morning-- and his greek yoghurt-- make me want to throw up just thinking of how they smelled to me in the morning. So strange, since I love Greek yoghurt. Two mornings ago I had raw carrots for breakfast because it was the only thing I craved/could keep down.

I did hear that preparing food with a slice of apple or carrot pressed into the roof of your mouth can help mask your sense of smell and quell the nausea. I'll have to try that at some point...

  • It gets better.  I was sure that my baby was killing me until 14 weeks.  I often looked up from the toilet and asked DH why his baby hated me.  My go to was preggie pops.  Some people will say that lemmon heads work just the same but they don't.  Now that I am done with MS, I keep finding them everywhere (desk, every purse, briefcase, all over the house).  You do have to move them around in your mouth while you suck on them because they will cause ulcers from the acidity.

  • I had a rough time in the beginning as well. No actual vomiting, but lots of nausea / loss of appetite / food aversions. At the suggestion of my obgyn, I kicked up my dairy intake and ate a bit every couple of hours (greek yogurt, string cheese, chunks of cheddar). This helped me a lot! Also, I could never turn down apple slices with peanut butter.

  • Ugh every piece of food mentioned here makes me gag. After 4 wks of not being able to get off the couch and crying because I couldn't play with my kids I started taking zofran. Talk about a miracle!!!!! I am 11 wks now so really hoping the ms will be gone soon. Good luck to you!
  • well I made my normal fruit smoothie and drank about half, took all my pills (folic, prenatal, calcium) and was sitting here then all of a sudden it decided it no longer wanted to stay down.   DANG IT NOW I AM HUNGRY AGAIN!

  • You do what you can do. With my first, I survived on super cold cantelope, steak, baked potatoes and ice cream for the entire summer. I also had nausea only but it was brutal and lasted until I was 17 weeks. Hoping this time is easier although even before my BFP, I had some nausea and I couldn't eat chili, which I normally scarf down.
