Highlights

So I have never had highlights, but I have been thinking about getting some. So all you ladies who get them, how often do you have to go back in and get them redone?

The first time it is like $80, but in future times, will it be cheaper because I am probably just touching up my roots?

Re: Highlights

  • I get highlights.  I'm naturally a very dark brunette, but it washes me out so I like to go lighter.  Aim for Jennifer Aniston, often get Jennifer Morrison.

I go about every 2-3 months.  It's like one day, I look in the mirror and see two-inch roots. I just went yesterday.  :)

Partial highlights (just on the top of your hair, not the hair underneath) will be a good choice for you.  Full highlights are all over your head, and are more expensive.  I'd only get them if you wear your hair up on a regular basis.

It doesn't matter if you're just touching up your roots.  The price remains the same.

  • Unfortunately the price stays the same.  I go every 5-6 weeks or so because my hair grows fast, and I am naturally a brunette and have my hair dyed lighter with light highlights as well, so outgrowth is very obvious.  Marxie gave some really great advice as far as what type of highlights you might want to get.

Thanks for the advice!  I didn't realize there was partial and full.  I think I will get partial, I only wear my hair up when it is really hot or I am just staying at home.

That stinks that the price remains the same, but oh well, I've needed a hair change for awhile, it's currently pretty boring.

  • I used to get highlights every 8weeks or so. Find a GOOD stylist, it will be worth the money. I got mine done the first time at hair cuttery and it didn't look that great. When I switched to a better stylist it looked so much better. Supprisingly, the price difference between hair cuttery and my current salon was negligable. For about a year before B was born I was actually getting an underlayer of my hair bleached and dyed blue! I loved it but stopped because its $ and time I don't have now with B here.

  • I just got very subtle high lights and low lights, but since I had virgin hair, we didn't do any bleach. I have to go back every 2-3 months.
