How long do growing pains last?

DD has been complaining her legs hurt for over a wk.  I know growing pains are common in the legs at this age...how long does it last?

I'm trying to determine at what point, I should consider other issues and involve a pedi.

They can last for a good long while. I actually read somewhere recently that it has nothing to do with bones or growing. They think it is mostly muscles aches because kids are so active during the day. Give her some ibuprofen and see if that helps. 

I wouldn't worry about it really unless she starts running a fever and/or stops wanting to bear weight or starts limping.
