Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Wiping noses...

So, does anyone have any tips for wiping snotty toddler noses?

My DS used love "blowing" his nose into the tissue, so when he would do that I would wipe his nose.

With this most recent cold, it's been a huge battle. He sees me coming and runs in the opposite direction. He screams and wipes his nose on his shirt.

  • I'm certain that's the norm with most toddlers. I had to do the same thing when DD had a cold a few weeks ago. Now that she's healed, I am trying to show her that blowing her nose isn't a scary thing. So I practice here and there with her to try and make it as "fun" and as possible. GL to you. Toddler colds are the pits!

  • I've found with Chloe she will tolerate me wiping her nose if I use a burp cloth (or other soft cloth) or wet wipes.  Tissues, even the ones with lotion, she doesn't like for more than 1 or 2 wipes a day.

  • Try Boogie Wipes - they are wet and smell good and seem to a lot less harsh on the sore noses.  I love them.  We only use them when there is a cold or virus type thing going on because they are expensive, but worth it.

  • Ditto the Boogie Wipes.  I never thought I'd fall for a marketing ploy but they are great!  DH uses them a lot.  Now, LO will sit and let us wipe her nose!  We don't use the Boogie Wipes all the time (just with crusty boogies!).  LO has a runny nose now from teething and we're using regular tissues and she's ok.

  • Forgive the first time mom here...what is the difference between boogie wipes and regular wipes?  I use J's regular wipes for his nose (they are sensitive, unscented).

Boogie Wipes have saline in them, which helps dissolve the snot, especially when it's crusted on. They also smell good!

  • Boogie wipes is a good suggestion.. also, my daughter loves copying me and she always wants to blow her nose after I do.  So when I need her to blow her nose, I get out a tissue and pretend to blow, then give it to her and she does too.  It usually works for us!

  • I also come at DS from the side. It sometimes helps if he doesn't see me coming at him.
  • another vote for boogie wipes! It's the only thing my daughter will let me wipe her nose with

  • I use a washcloth dampened with warm water. I've never used Boogie Wipes, because I thought they might be a gimmick. After reading some of these reviews though I think I'll go try some! :-)
