Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

A fever question

LO had a fever last night. It started out low 99-100 but at one point it was up to 102.3ish. He fell asleep right after I gave him Tylenol and hasn't woken up yet (14 hours later)...

Should I take him to an urgent care or wait a day? He's never had "just a virus" - the few times he's been sick, it's always been bacterial. But I know it's possible it is just a virus (although I'm not sure with his fever that high).

Ugh, I wish he knew how to tell me what hurt.

Re: A fever question

  • My LO had a fever of 102.7 the other week. It came on pretty fast with no other symptoms other than she was really tired. It responded to Tylenol/Motrin which helped her rest comfortably. She had the fever a few days so I took her to the pediatrician to check her ears and throat. Everything was fine it was just viral and the fever went away. She had a little bit of a runny nose for the rest of the week. So it could be viral but you never know. The doctor said if the fever responds to medication and is lower than 105 then no need to rush to emergent care.

  • Lo had a fever last weekend of 101ish...it didn't go right down with tylenol, but eventually did.  He seemed fine.  The next day it was 99ish...the next day it was gone..........he seems fine.
