Tell me I'm not the only one

DS is 9 and a half weeks old and the longest he has ever slept at night is 4.5 hours.  I was feeling pretty ok about it until I went to a mommy group - out of 12 kids that are all within 2 weeks of DS, he is the only one who is not sleeping more than at least 6 hours at night.  DS has excellent weight gain (born at 7 lbs, now at 12.5 lbs), naps well, can sooth himself to sleep some of the time, and is a content and easy baby during the day.  He also follows a 3 hour eat/play/sleep schedule during the day - so essentially doing everything that all the baby books say that he should do, other than the STTN thing.   I feel like there is nothing much I can do to help him sleep longer at night, so I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance :(

    Babies sleep longer when they are ready.nbsp; People who's babies are sleeping longer stretches may like to think that they "trained" their child to do this, but it's just not the case.nbsp; If you child is still hungry after four hours asleep, they will wake up, period!nbsp; Babies this age can't decide not to be hungry and wait to eat till the morning because momm and daddy trained them to wait.nbsp;
    Don't feel bad, your LO will sleep longer stretches when he is ready and that's completely fine and normal!

    This. People who think their fantastic parenting has "trained" a two month old to STTN are plain BSC. Lucky is what they are, that's it!

  • Our LO was sleeping in 4 hour stretches, but the past 3 nights he went 7 hrs, 7.5 hrs and then 8 last night.  I barely slept because I thought he would wake up any moment.  I have no idea what made him sleep so long the past 3 nights, so it's probably just a fluke thing.  The only thing I can attribute it to was he took NO naps the past couple of days (despite my best efforts), and I give him a huge bottle of breastmilk before I put him down. My friend also gave me a big, fluffy blanket that I've swaddled him in the past 3 nights, so maybe it's blanket black magic!

  • We still havent reached 4 hours and my LO is also 9 weeks! You are not alone. I'm so looking forward to the day.
  • Mine STTN but not at all during the day, despite my best efforts. I think that's just the way she is. I'm certainly not doing anything different from anyone else here to get her to STTN.

  • My son was 15 months old before he slept over 4 hours at a time. My daughter started sleeping 8 hour stretches at 8 weeks, which is something my son didn't do until he was 22 months old. It all depends on the child.
    It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

    Ditto!  No idea why it's working that way!

  • I am lucky to get 5 hours a night, I can tell you EXACTLY what is on at 5AM on every channel, because baby boy is like an alarm clock.  People also treat me like I am doing something wrong, but as long as the boy is healthy, I guess they are the ones who are wrong.  And I think, sometimes, since it's seen as such a "positve" and proof of good parenting, that some people may be stretching the truth a bit.  Not calling them liars but dude, I bet there is some lying going on (not you ladies, I was a lurker until today, don't want to make a bad first impression, I was refering to the OP's group of 12)
