Cloth Diapering

I seem to have at least 1 leak per day...

I'm really loving cloth, but I seem to have at least 1 leak per day and it's not just from one particular diaper type. I never had leaks with disposables. I do not want to switch back, but I'm not a fan of the extra laundry from having to change DS's clothes multiple times.

What could I be doing wrong? It is always in the front by his legs.

What kind of diapers do you have... do you use any doublers/hemp?  How long are you going between changes?  Is it a leak, or wicking?

  • I've had one leak so far and I think it was from the flushable liner sticking out a little.  I think when she peed it spread through the liner to the outside.  If you use flushable liners then I'd say make sure they're tucking into the diaper.  If you don't use them then I have no clue.

  • What kind of diapers are you using? How often are you changing?

Its likely one of three things:

Fit issue, absorbency issue, or repelling issue.

Is the rise too short or is it too loose around the legs? If you're using OS diapers, you might want to fumble with the sizing to make sure that's not the issue. Maybe unsnap the rise one, and make sure the legs are nice and snug.

When you're experiencing leaking, is the diaper saturated or not very wet? If its not, then it very well could be repelling. If it is totally saturated, it could be an absorbency issue and you might want to add a hemp doubler or extra insert and/or change more often.

  • Does it happen to leak out onto his onsie in the leg area? I found that with CD's especially my FB OS that if his onsies were getting snug to where they would get in that leg crease it would leak onto the onsie. I sized up his onsies and no more leaking.

  • I use FB PS, grovia AI2 and AIO, BG, and kawaii mainly. I've never had leaks with the kawaii's.

I change every 2 hours and make sure everything is tucked in. The diapers are usually saturated.
The leak is usually by the tabs - doesn't matter if snaps or aplix. He's got chunky legs so no gaps, sometimes I worry they arw too tight bc he gets red marks.

Maybe try changing more often or stuff in a doubler?  If the insert(s) are saturated, the additional pee has to go somewhere....
