Itzbeen timer or an iPhone app?

I registered for the Itzbeen timer after reading Baby Bargains and multiple positive reviews, but am wondering if there's an iPhone app we can both download on our phones/iPad that will accomplish the same thing? (And I assume, sych up together).

Planning to BF, in case that matters on your brilliant bumpie opinions and ideas...
Any STM's found/used an app that works well? Or loved the Itzbeen?

 Thanks in advance!

Re: Itzbeen timer or an iPhone app?

  • Eh, I was old school with DS and probably will be again this time around.  I just used a small notebook and always had a pen with it.  I just wrote down the time DS started eating and from what side.  Then I wrote down his diapers.  So my paper would look something like:
    12:36-12:46 R (for right side)
    12:50-1:10 L
    2:30 BM

I just wrote down as he went so I didn't forget anything or fall back asleep.

  • I would just get the iPhone app- I can't find the one we used, but it recorded diapers (wet & dirty), nursing (sides and time), bottles (time and amount).  Much cheaper for something you'll use for a short time.  After the first few weeks, we didn't really need it anymore, as the pedis stopped caring about the number of diapers and we got into a routine with the feedings.  Also, if you're BF, it's nice to have your iPhone handy to play with during a long feed or if LO falls asleep on top of you and you don't want to move him.

  • FTM here, but a friend of mine recommended Basic Baby as a great all in one app.
  • We downloaded the Baby Connect app because it'll sync with both our phone and has a web version so that anyone watching the baby could log the info. In playing around with it, it's pretty easy to navigate, including BF info. Now if only this baby would show up so I could use it. :P

  • I have the itzbeen and several apps.  I've tried them all out and much prefer the itzbeen.  THe iphone apps have more detailed information, but honestly I didn't feel I needed any of it.  It's so much easier to push one button at night or when you are tired vs opening the app and entering info.  It's fast, easy, and gets the job done.  I like the nightlight feature too.  One last thing I like about it, is that I can leave with the nanny and she uses it so that when I get home I know when he last was changed, fed, etc.

  • I tried an app but in my sleep deprived state, didn't really get the hang of it plus found it inconvenient to use my phone, especially when I wanted to talk on it while doing something else (like nursing!) or when DH changed a diaper or administered meds. One of DH's coworkers had an Itzbeen sent to us so we gave it a shot and actually really like it. I still use it now because it helps me keep track of everything and it's so simple to use.

  • Total Baby for the iPhone is the best. You can sync across phones (just have to be on the same wifi network). You can record so many things. If you plan on breastfeeding, the pumped milk storage inventory is AMAZING! I stopped recording many things for my daughter (she's 7 months) but I still record poopy diapers (she goes days in between, so it's nice to know how long it's actually been), pumped milk, and baths. Recently, she had a fever and i used it to record her temperature (so i could see it over time) and doses of medicine. really great app! way better than any timer could be. plus, it saves all of your history. and you can email it, which is awesome.

  • Another vote for Baby Connect. We are still using it even though dd is almost 6 mos. it syncs across phones and has nice graphs and displays of info. I'm sure the timer would be fine for most cases but dd was low birth weight, had bad jaundice and was then hospitalized for rsv at 3 weeks. Doctors were constantly asking detailed info about intake and output. Baby connect was the best way to stay on top of all of it. The time only tracks what is going on now, not any kind of cumulative history.

  • We used the itzbeen (I wouldn't buy it full price but that is a good deal) for the newborn period and loved it. Then we moved to the babybix iphone app to track naps. So I would say BOTH.

  • Similac had a free app for the iphone where you could track all kinds of info like that.  I don't know what Itzbeen offers in addition, but I could track when I breastfed/what side/how long, when I pumped (side & how long), if I gave a bottle how many ounces & when, when the last diaper was & select options about what it looked like (amazing detail was available), naps, etc...

I found it super helpful to identify patterns, and keep track when I became braindead a couple weeks in.

  • Someone gave me the Itzbeen and I hated it. It was a pain to set and basically completely unnecessary IMHO. I'm sure there is an iPhone app you can use although I have no experience with it.

Love Baby Connect. Totally worth the $5.

DH and I can enter stuff, online, from phone or iPad. When one of us is alone with the other the other person can check in to see what's happening.

It's been amazing. And sooo helpful for all the Drs appts we've been to when asked specific questions.

I would absolutely second this app!  It also keeps a running tally, I have nursed for 215 hours since my lo was born.

  • I use an iPhone app - iBabyLog, I love it.  First of all, it's free.  Tracks anything you can think of - breast feeding, pumping, sleeping, activities, dr appts, milestones.  Charts things you track.  You can share and sync with other users on the same baby - DH and I both enter things on our phones and it updates it for both of us to see.  I always have my phone with me, so it works for us.
