I get home about 7 and thats when we feed the kids, dress them for bed, play with them, settle them in and eat dinner.  Its so hectic.  Does it get easier?  what schedule works for u?

  • It gets so much easier as they get older, just hang in there.

  • That's a tough time to get home. I actually "get home" around 5:30-6 and that to me seems late, especially with the time change. I have to leave the house around 7:30 to get drop off done and to work. I'd prefer an early day all around. Up early, but home earlier.

  • That is really late getting home, but it will get easier.  I find that if I have everything ready so as soon as I walk in the house I can start dinner, things go better.  I love my crockpot, because I can let it simmer all day and dinner is practically ready by the time I get home (which is usually around 6PM).

Once they are older, they are more self sufficient and are able to help out with a few things.  DS loves to help me make dinner, so that is a bonus!  Don't worry, you will get into your groove eventually.

  • i get home at 7pm too.. DH usually does as well. my FIL actually picks DD up from daycare so she doesn't have to stay that late.
  • Before I switched jobs, I was getting home at 6pm.  It was terrible to try to figure out supper and then spend time with DH and DS.  I'm not suggesting you switch jobs, but it does get easier as tehy get older.  If at all possible, I have dinner already figured out and sometimes DH can throw it in.  Or he picks up DS.  Then I feel like at least someone is getting quality time with DS.
  • I usually get home between 6-6:15 and trying to get everyone to sit down for dinner together is a huge challenge (and something I want very much).  As soon as we walk in the door Grace points at the fridge.  I plan all my meals on the weekend and try to prep ahead so it only takes 15-20 minutes to cook (we do a lot of grilling too, that's pretty fast).  After dinner we play or have bathtime and then it's books and bed.  Some nights I feel rushed, but other times I'm grateful for the peace and quiet after her bedtime.  I'm hoping all the pp are right and it does get easier as they get even older!
