Postpartum Depression

What to expect at appt?

I have an appt with my OB on Tuesday to discuss symptoms of PPD. Baby 2 was born 5 months ago and I have been feeling good/like myself for about a month. I've been very irritable, sad, lonely, and overwhelmed. Both of my girls have been preemies and I think that has been contributing to how I've been feeling.

I'd like to have an idea of what to expect at my appt. I'd prefer to try counseling before medication, so I'm hoping my OB will be able to refer me to someone who can help.

Re: What to expect at appt?

  • My Dr. gave me a list of local therapists, counselors and psychiatrist. I was then able to look them up and see who accepted my insurance, who was close enough by that I felt comfortable going to, since I'm scared of drivingTongue Tied, and just a general idea about who I was calling.

It must be very hard to care for a preemie twice. I hope you find someone you feel really comfortable with to talk to. I have my first therapy session this Wednesday, I am excited to start working through this. Good luck.

  • I would imagine that they will make you take the PPD screening test. It is really simple and quick. Then I'm sure your doctor will ask you some questions to make sure that you aren't a danger to yourself or your children. At the end she should refer you to a Psychologist or possibly a counselor! Good for you for making that first step towards getting help! You are so brave and strong! You are on your way to getting past this! :)
