PPROM Question - slow leak?

Hi

I am pretty neurotic and had a PPROM scare a few weeks ago so since then I have been doing kegels every time I go to the bathroom just to make sure I'm only leaking urine. I feel wet all the time (have for weeks, but doc says its fine) and I have a lot of clear mucus which makes it confusing.

Today when I was peeing & doing my kegels, during one of the kegels, liquid still came out for a few seconds.

Since then, I have done the lying on my side test and nothing has come out.

I have also done the smell test but, to be honest, I feel like the mix of panty liner & toilet paper smells sweet so everything smells sweet to me.

I would appreciate any stories of what your PPROM experience was like.  I am having a hard time finding online tales of what actually happened when women "ruptured" or had a slow leak.

 I really appreciate it.

Re: PPROM Question - slow leak?

  • My pProm was pretty easy to diagnose. I went to use the bathroom and then got back into bed. Minutes later I felt a trickle down my leg and I thought I'd peed on myself. So I went back to the bathroom and the trickle wasn't stopping. It just kept coming and coming. It wasnt a gush like you see in movie. I was in the hospital's L&D within 45 minutes and by then I'd lost all of it.

Im assuming when you saw your doctor they tested the fluid(?)

  • My slow leak never stopped and started. Once it started it kept going and after laying down it got heavier. I use that test for myself now when I'm feeling neurotic...if it stops then I know it's not a leak. It sounds like you're fine, but it never hurts to check with your doc. Good luck!

  • Have you had them check?  I had PPROM with my loss at 19wks. But it was pretty easy to tell the difference. I was just standing in a co-workers' office when I felt a drip down my leg. I immediately thought it was weird and went to the bathroom.. wiped..and it went away.  Went back to talking to my co-worker (who is an RN and used to be an OB RN).  She told me to call my OB immediately. So I did and as I was walkign to my car.. another drip down my leg.  When I got to OB, another drip down my leg. When they examined me they saw 'pooling' and suspected broken water, sent me to triage. Walking to my car, another drip down my leg. By the time I got to triage.. I was soaked.. it had completely broken.

This time around.. I was probably 13 weeks or so and I just felt really watery and I was nervous that I might be leaking fluid. So I went to triage and they did an amnisure test to rule out amniotic fluid. That really helped to ease my mind.  If you can't tell,  I would just go! That's what they are there for!!
