Tandem nursing tips?

I'm new to the tandem nursing thing, and wondering how you do it with a newborn in the mix?

Re: Tandem nursing tips?

  • I will most likely be having this issue in the coming months! My son is 2 yrs and 3 months, and doesn't show any signs of weaning anytime soon!! I wish I could wean him sometimes, but he really seems to need nursings. I would imagine that tandem nursing with a newborn in the mix would be a little more difficult, but many moms do it. From what I've read, your breastmilk is tailored to your youngest child, you just need to ensure that he/she has enough time at the breast. How often is your toddler nursing?

  • "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" is a fantastic book to read if you're nursing two.

Generally, you prioritize the newborn over the toddler. The newborn HAS to nurse. The toddler WANTS to nurse. You have to find a balance you can live with, and that can mean imposing limits of when and how long you want to nurse the older child.

    3-4 times a day.
